[MAP] Atrium: Homage to SMB Battle Mode
« on: October 27, 2011, 02:58:23 am »
I have tried to re-create the SMB3 "Battle mode" arena (from memory), and think it is suited for an Atrium - I have named the file as a 5 door "Low Atrium" as it seems to fit better there size-wise compared to the larger ones. I considered it for a boss room, but don't think it would work for anything but an Amoeba.

Nice!  I've always been a fan of that mode, too. :)

Of course, that mode was inspired by the original Mario Brothers game, which, IMO, is still the best Mario game made, with Galaxies being a close second.

Sometimes in life when you encounter a viewpoint so utterly alien to your own that it defies all comprehension, there's no reason to even begin to formulate an argument; instead it's best to simply acknowledge that this is a world of truly diverse opinion, and move on.  :)

I just don't see 3D belonging in any Mario game (except maybe Super Paper Mario on the Wii), or Sonic for that matter - it's just not cricket!

Agreed. :)

Though, I agree with @B0FH about Sonic.  Sonic never made the leap to 3D successfully except sort of on Sonic CD, but Mario and Zelda made the leap to 3D really well I thought.  Granted, I don't prefer Mario Galaxy to the classic side-scrolling ones, but I wouldn't want to do without either side of them.

I thought Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast was excellent.

Sonic CD was awesome, but the 3D was the gimmicky Special Stage, not the base game. Sonic Colours on the Wii is a good mix of the 2, but when you go 3rd Person it just doesn't translate as well as a 2D platformer does.

I missed Sonic Adventure and Sonic Colors, so they don't factor into my opinion.  But, good to know. :)
