« on: May 02, 2012, 10:55:09 am »
Building on and incorporating the work Quaix did in his Depth Of Field texture pack, I present A Valley With More Depth.

It includes the following:
Quote
Quaix
----------
* Depth of Field D20

zebraMatt
----------
* Character Sharpner
* Total Asset Saturation & Contrast Adjustment
* Monochrome Puzzle Planets
* Background Simplifier
* Monster Sharpner

Beautiful Original Valley

Screenshots are always appreciated!

And if anything is particularly fitting of an improvement that people want to see in the game, I'll consider wrapping mods or parts of mods into the main game itself.  It's based on my own judgement and not a popular vote, but still.

Now with screenshots.

(Although perhaps not terribly illustrative ones, mind you!)

Also, it occurs to me that some of those particle changes are redundant now!

Umm, honestly, that made a heck of a lot of difference. It sort of made the foreground stand out a lot more. Nice work!

I don't see too much of a difference, but a start to alternate graphics is always nice!

That (original) blue background is beautiful! What a shame to lose so much detail.

Well, I disagree that it's losing so much detail - the effect is subtle in the extreme (whu?) - but I concur that it's a shame. The thing about the way Valley looks, dissenting opinions aside, is that it really is rather beautiful when viewed as a static art piece.

Sadly in motion it's just too much for some, like me. I'm all about game first, graphics later - and actually here I find the explosion of colour and detail impedes my ability to play. For me, that's bad!

Updated to v2.1.

It's definitely less beautiful like this, I'll admit!

Aside from the background getting less detailed, I honestly don't see any difference.  Maybe it's just me?

As I say, it's designed to be subtle!  :)

The whole idea of the mod is to make background into more background and foreground into more foreground so you don't have to use so much headspace to "follow" what is important. For some people it prevents eyestrain.

Also, this seems to break particle effects. I can cast Light spells and see them, but entropy, fire and air spells are all invisible. I hear the sound and see the cast animation, but that's it. No projectile.

That's... odd. Can you do me a favour? Try one (or both) of the following:

1. In TexturePacks\A Valley With More Depth v2.1 -Various\Configuration rename Particles.xml and then hit CTRL-F4 ingame.
2. In TexturePacks\A Valley With More Depth v2.1 -Various\Images delete the Particles subfolder.

Let me know if either of those fixes it!

I'll do that when I have the time, but what I did to fix it was replace the modded Particles.xml with the original and it worked fine.

Ah, good, ok. I'll have another look over that file and see if I can find a problem!
