Interested in helping shape A Valley Without Wind?
« on: October 13, 2011, 07:07:50 am »
If you've thought about ever adding rooms to the games, we'd LOVE to have you do that. If you want to see the room maps that are already in the game, for examples, you can find them in RuntimeData\Logic\RoomMaps from the game directory. You will see that there are different types of rooms, feel free to make as many or as few types as you wish. If you want the room to be included into the game for everyone to play, post the .txt file here in the mods&maps forum, and I'll get it into the game. We'll give you full credit for the room! If you have any questions about room design or about adding rooms to the game, ask here. If you post a room, let me know how you'd like me to credit you, using either your real name or forum name.

I might get into this! Is there a way to quickly test the room (as opposed to wandering the world until it shows up?)

No, not really, but I'll look over the room before I throw it into the game and if there's something that just isn't going to work, I'll let you know.

To test the room you can just exit the game right before you enter a boss room, and then before entering the room pull out every other room file of that type.  I haven't tried this to see if this causes any odd behavior but it was how I was planning to test the map that I have an idea for

Exactly what I did and it's all good.

Here's a little more of a guide on how to test them, too: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,9389.0.html

Any chance of a map editor for Mac?  I'd be happy to do some.

I'm not really sure how to go about doing that.  It's a very simple .NET app, so it could be cross-compiled via mono.  I think mono has a tool for doing the conversion in fact, but I don't know if it just makes another exe or if it is able to make an app bundle for OSX.  It's been years since I did much directly with mono (aside from the embedded-in-unity version).

Oh dear, that does not mean very much to me. Anyway I'd be grateful if someone more computer-literate than me wanted to check if that's possible and perhaps describe how to do it.

For the various programmers here: http://www.mono-project.com/MonoMacPackager

It looks like that might be good for cross-compiling.  I'm happy to share the source code for the .NET app if you want to try to cross-compile this in MonoDevelop.
