'Warping In' Visual Cue
« on: October 03, 2019, 07:51:47 am »
I get it, new ships 'warp in' and appear on the map the instant they're meant to. Fine. I'm down with that. It's thematically appropriate.

That doesn't mean it looks good when it happens. Or even sounds good. (Is there any sound associated with a warp-in?)

You could argue that 'warping in' doesn't have any visual effect associated with it, as a point of game lore; however, a simple visual (and subtle audio?) herald could go a long way. Consider the 2004 TV series Battlestar Galactica: when ships jump they leave and arrive with a very simple blue flash that runs along the length of the ship. Simple, effective, and at least two orders of magnitude better looking than merely instantly winking in or out of existence.

Perhaps something similar, something simple, could be implemented for ships that warp into space, incl. reinforcements, in AI War 2?
