I mean just looking at the last 3 Arcen projects show, that a lot in planning can go wrong.

None of those had budget issues though (as far as I know).  Don't make apples to oranges comparisons.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Okay, take a step back and breathe. There is no point in getting upset over someone being wrong on the Internet. Also, remember that what you say is hard to convey through text. Most of what you intend to say is lost and people take things the wrong way because they can't see your smile or your light laugh or what have you.

Are you joking? Stars beyond reach got delayed by a lot, this is exactly a budget issue! Delay=needing more money = budget problem.
Release of Raptor got cancelled, because of budget issues.
And because theyre budget was not enough after the Starward Rogue release, several people had to be fired.

Or what do you understand under budget problems? Maybe we do not talk about the same.

SBR got delayed a lot because of gameplay problems. That can create a budget problem, but it was in no way caused by budget problems.

It got cancelled because of lack of interest.

There wasn't enough *sales*, which caused the layoffs.

Or what do you understand under budget problems? Maybe we do not talk about the same.

The two of you aren't talking about the same thing. Arcen as a company has a budget issue now because all those other things happened. Those other things didn't happen because of lack of budget on the game in the first place.

You need to calm down dude. None of those were budget related reasons.

I really do not see what your definition of budget problem is...

It is never "oh shit I coudl not do basic arithmetic and we dont have enough money", but always "crap this costs more than expected, since it takes longer/needs more people"  or "crap we dont get enough money out of it".

There are tons of stuff which can happen, which could delay their release:

- Remarking some things are just not fun (enough).
- Having more (time consuming) bugs than expected.
- Someone from the team (or their familie) getting sick.
- No one buying the game in early access. (While they would need some money to develop further).
- Someone suing them because they use the word AI or War or whatever.
- Steam deciding after theire last games, that they first have to pass steam greenlight again.
- People in the team arguing with each other about some aspects.
- Kickstarter backer (or alpha testers etc.) make more problems than expected (having to send them emails, keys, answer their questions, making updates on kickstarter etc.)
- Having to do more marketing for kickstarter, in order to get to the goal.
etc.

600$ is less than having 1 person work 1 week, and all these things above could easily cause 1 week more delay (than expected). So for me it seems absolutely unreasonable to say "yeah we don't need this 600 everything is planned out perfectly".

Edit: please people tell me what would be a budget problem than? Make an example.

Feedback for video. Not a large issue but still something to think about.

I am a born pro-found deaf person. This means that for most talking bits I can't make out what you are saying on the video unless I was also lip-reading at the same time.

Subtitle or close caption would be nice but not necessary.

Edit: please people tell me what would be a budget problem than? Make an example.

A budgeting problem for this game would be if like Pablo needed to record 3 tracks and Arcen only had money for 2 from the Kickstarter.

The last 3 games didn't fail (or get released in SBR's case) because there was a lack of funds to make those games.  SR had a budget and was released.  It didn't sell well.  That was the problem there.  RR was a market test in EA and couldn't garner enough support (sales) to continue development.  Again, not a budget problem.  SBR had gameplay design issues that have to be worked out.  You could say it's gone over budget, but I don't think money was deciding factor here.

The budget for AI War 2 is based around the people working on it and having a reasonable buffer.  Asking for more than that doesn't feel right.

The budget included (hoped for) more sales, thats a budget problem.

So needing 3 songs instead of 2 is a budget problem, but taking 1 year longer for development is not?! So developer are not part of the budget only musicians?

Needing further money (you do not have) to develop a game further is also no budget problem?

Grabing every straw arent you?^^

Well it does not change the fact that they cant plan to 600$ precise (thats 0.2% of the budget). If they could they could make millions as managers and wouldn't need to do a kickstarter.

Nevertheless, in the end it does not matter, the partially not so good looking parts of the video + the lack of information (from the relative long video) you get are worse than this "we are so clever we need 600$ less" anyway.

For what it's worth, I don't think there's a real issue by having it be $299,400, I just thought it was odd (i.e. not rounding up to the next nearest "big" number).

Well it can get an issue, if more people like me get annoyed by that fact though, but yeah most likely other issues are worse.

I'm sorry, but I can't honestly imagine why it's worth raising a fuss about $600. If $600 makes/breaks this game, then this game was going to go overbudget anyway. When we're talking about hundred of thousands of dollars, $600 is largely meaningless. This is a non-issue. Let's focus on other subjects.

Yes the 600$ do not make a difference, thats exactly why it annoys me that they say "we dont need this extra 600$ since we are so smart at planning".

I mean they do not even say who they are on the kickstarter, this makes them a bit shady... (Normally on kickstarter you have the team introduced with pictures!).
Of course I know them, and you most likely as well, but not everyone does.

It is just a lot of small things adding up together making this kickstarter feeld not so good.

- No real additional rewards (not even a soundtrack even though they spend 25 000 on music)
- Only 1 video (containing also gameplay from another game)
- No fotos/team introduction
- strange price
- no stretch goals
- no concept art
- no nice backer tiers logos (on the bottom like some kickstarters have)
etc.

That was intentional by design and frankly most Kickstarter projects are moving away from physical rewards because of the cost and time involved in making these. I still have Kickstarters releasing the last of the rewards 3 years after the Kickstarter
- Only 1 video (containing also gameplay from another game)
I'm sure more videos are planned. Most KSes start with one video
- No fotos/team introduction
If people are unwilling to go to the website to look these people up, that's their problem. In the mean time, this is also not special. I've backed several KSes without photo/video evidence of the team.
- strange price
You really must not look around Kickstarter all that much
- no stretch goals
Again, these show up later generally speaking. And frankly, stretch goals are problematic for reasons that would take a novel to fill. I'm not surprised there's none here
- no concept art
So what?
- no nice backer tiers logos (on the bottom like some kickstarters have)
Again, so what? This is meaningless tat. I'd much rather they focused on something meaningful. Like releasing the bloody game.
etc.
