Title: Some ship visual experiments (Has test download file)

So kinda noticed that...unless you super zoom in, you never see any of these ship models (which is a shame, a lot of them are amazing...)

So I tried some experiments with the ship scaling, visual scaling, and formation placements to get these results.

V-Wings and Assault Starship are the tinkered units, Bombers and Siege Starship are the "before" examples.

You can actually see some of them at a far out zoom!

Please say what you think. Another...bit of curious tinkering.

And Chris, if you see this, the Eyebot formation was indeed set to never rotate. For some unknown reason?

What if you have a mark VII assault starship with those visual settings? How large is that?

Assault Starship comparison: Mk I and Mark VII with vastly reduced scaling (1.9 at Mark VII instead of 4.25)

I really would like the models to be more visible in game (either through an enhanced icon-less mode or through making the models larger as is done here).

I think, it has meaning. Look interesting, and its can be more beatiful in the real game, if you see on big ships.
But need test in real game.

Then I guess I can try doing a game wide change, with similar large ship scaling as well.

Previously I've never noticed the scaling per mark, other than when someone pointed out Mark 5 Guardians were bigger than Dires.

EDIT: Should things like Sentinel Frigates be a bit larger as well? Assuming the Starships etc are almost Battlecruiser/Dreadnaught types of sorts. I don't really know my ship classes, though. Not super large, just noticeably bigger.

Yeah, I was meaning as a kind of mod for people to try.

Leave it for now, let him see it first. Fleetships probably need to be the same - making them bigger like this looked like it could crowd planets at the current grav well size.

That, and the formation setup is a real pain.

I think this would be a good idea for a graphic option in the game.
For people who have the graphical performance to view the 3D models at all times.
For those who cannot, the normal, icon version would be enough.

Performance wise this should not harm much. If folks like the larger look, or some do and some don't, then I see no issue with making either permanent changes or having it as an option. I'm on mobile right now and can't really give a proper opinion yet, but I'm intrigued.

Kinda started this because I looked through what people were saying about the game and someone mentioned being confused at 3d models but then only really seeing icons. So figure...try to get the models more visible.

Fleetships kinda took up a lot of room though. Still so tiny visually...

EDIT: Last 2 I guess, just showing fleetships a bit better next to starships.

File with a first go with icon offsets, minor decrease in fleetship icon size, and Starships are a bit bigger physically.

Changes nothing else except those, so gameplay etc will all be the same.

Just throw the files into your GameEntity folder and let it replace. If you want to remove, you can validate your game via Steam and it'll revert automatically.

EDIT: With the update out, those files'll change some of the balance stuff back to the last version.

Interesting, i finally see fleetship.
Is it okay, that units have different height in the space?

For the fleetships, rather than having multiple ships per subsquad, I could switch those to all being a single ship per subsquad, which would let us draw them bigger but in the same amount of space.  That might help?  Not sure how interested folks are in this.

HeartHunter, yeah some things have their icons being higher than others - it's so important or bigger things like a Command Station or Starship stand out above less important/smaller things. It actually was like this before, but I think it's just more prominent now.

As for the single ship per subsquad, I think that would help, but see how it goes. Not many people respond to things like this I find.

Did you add new size in update? i see, that i cant cover command station with shield generator, if i click on command station icon, like in old updates.

Nope!

Though that...is a point. Putting the icon way up like that is...misleading as to where the unit is in a way.
