So, I guess this means AI War II is a confirmed thing now
« on: September 08, 2016, 04:06:51 pm »
Gee wizz. You look away for only a few months, and come back to a new product with six major revisions of design docs.

Ok, more seriously, I'm happy to see this moving forward. I'm currently going over the design docs, and it looks pretty good so far. I'll post any of my thoughts and comments in relevant threads.

Thanks guys. Looking forward to see where this goes. :)

Welcome to the party!

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Good to see you! :D

And yeah, it's definitely a thing, and we could definitely use your brain as part of the collective. ;)

seems like I'm the only here not super hyped for this game 0_0 which granted is mainly because I've never really had the time to get into ai war.
between general life stuff and my other hobbies I'm lucky I get any time at all to play video games but still ill try and set some time aside for it before this sequel releases at least.

You know, you can be not excited by AI War II. Maybe it's just not your kind of game. I wasn't really interested in Starward Rogue and Release Raptor because I'm not much into action games, and it's fine. I won't judge you because you don't like the same games as me, and you shouldn't feel bad about "not being super hyped" (and your not even the only one, I'm sure).

Tastes...

I definitely don't judge, either!

I expect lots of people aren't excited. That's cool. :)

This particular forum happens to be ground zero, since it's the only place to talk about it. So, everyone who is excited is here. :D

Come to think of it, I'm far more excited about the game design process. I did say elsewhere that I'm not excited for the game itself (nuance : I would like to play it, which is not the same thing). On the other hand, I am checking the forum here morning and evening - incriminating evidence if there ever is one.

This is rather amazing isn't it?  I mean it's fascinating to watch everything take shape then later on get translated into an actual game.  Then it further evolves to a 1.0 state.

Also, what Chris is doing with us at this stage is surprisingly comparable to how a one would expect a centralised dev team might operate. We've got the main dev-doc on which the overall direction proceeds, with focused subgroups splitting off particularly gnarly details. The level of discussion is often just a wage away from having minimal functioning examples coded, in order to argue and develop ideas.

My Steam notifications mentioned an AI War II kickstarter and I came to check up on it. While the Cthulhu Wars Onslaught 2 KS campaign killed my game budget for awhile, it was super expensive, I want to back this one as soon as I am able!

Can we get tugs back?  ;D

Haha -- wow, tugs really bring me back.  I can't even remember what the deal was with them.  Can you remind me? :)

They were allied etherjet tractors: they'd run in, grab your damaged ships, haul them back to your mobile repair platform, and get healed up.

I don't recall why they were abandoned, unfortunately.

Oh right, now I remember.

They were abandoned because players wanted increasing amounts of control and/or sophisticated AI with them, and they quickly became something that people wanted to micro either directly or via a lot of complex automation.
