Quickie notification about 0.117 (it's out).

It has a variety of things that are inwork in it, some of which might be considered temporary steps backwards (the buttons are a bit smallish and awkward now), but that's the nature of progress.  Fits and spurts. ;)  Overall it's a lot of strides forward and getting our systems set up so that we can get actual art in there for the buttons, and get actual proper organization in there for the ship icons.

There are some performance issues with the ship icons thing at the moment, which Keith fixed in 0.118, but that's not out partly because I think it might cause some other issues.  We may use a hybrid of some of my other sprite drawing stuff to help with the performance of certain bits of the unity gui, I don't know.  That's something we're still investigating.

If the new release causes any intractable problems over the weekend, there is an alpha0116 beta branch on steam that you can revert to if you wish.  Cinth is also working on lots of new ship graphics integrations to be ready for Keith to wire up whenever he has a spare bit of time, and I'm excited about that.  Blue's been really busy over the last month, and a lot of that stuff hasn't been reflected in the game yet.

 :D  Officially back to work.  Going to have lots of new ships coming online soon!  And when I say soon, I'm not talking Valve time  ;)

I'm not sure how the icon thingy scales but it would probably look better if there was 10 icons large because there is 10 squads per unit caps.
Also the squads could show how damage they are by being "grayed" (if 25% damaged, 25% of the icon is grayed from the top for example).

I intentionally stay away from these forums to preserve an element of surprise. Well, that and school. Anyway I am super excited to when it is in a semi-friendly state (I guess it is not yet?)

Same here, I once ruined a game for me by playing alpha and beta (Divinity: Original Sin) it's mainly why I only backed AI War 2 as I did, I don't even want the "lure" to have a key sitting there, a game icon in steam telling me that I have it... although it was nice that a lot of feedback we gave during alpha really made it into the game (The start of D:OS was FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR worse than it is in remake version where they finally took to listen to us that a tutorial cave that is mandatory without a skip (because skill-books and tons of loot.....) is maybe not a smart idea... now you can skip it and gain all the important items)

When it is presentable and in a state where both keith and x4000 think it's pleasing to play and look at, then and only then will I hit "install" and play ;P Imo it is important that at least some keep their first impression .. well, a true first impression. Only then can a good feedback be formed after all.

When the game is ready to be played "for realz" (as in, systems, emergent AI behavior, balance and stuff like that) I hope we get a hint. ;p

It's coming along!  Lots of invisible-for-now changes from Keith heading through svn.  A lot of ships and larger game mechanics rely on the things I've been seeing him add, so that's exciting stuff even if it's not yielding immediate visible results.  Kind of makes for more of an explosion of stuff later, I guess. :)
