I think anything that is in the game is supposed to be used, or at least should be. And if it isn't and it's some kind of an inside joke, outsiders aren't going to get it and it's going to seem like flawed design.

I think there's absolutely no use for Mark III Nuke but there could be for a Mark II.

The joke on the Mk III is readily available, given what Mk I and Mk II do, so I don't worry about outsiders "not getting it."

I believe Keith said before he is hoping to change nukes in a way that they wouldn't give AIP but would still be balanced.

Well, technically I assumed the "but would still be balanced" part, but the no AIP part I believe is correct. Also I think anyone could understand why I would assume it would still be balanced.

Does an AI send an exo wave against the use of a nuke? Or does it destroy too many things? Impossibly expensive? I don't quite understand how it would be balanced.

I don't know his plans, I just remember him saying (I think in a discord or kickstarter comment) that he was planning on making nukes not cause AIP. I don't know what he is doing instead.
