Let's get Nemesis boys!
« on: December 16, 2016, 07:59:22 am »
In AI War 1, Nemesis was always my favorite Minor Faction, because even though as an idea it still felt like it could be fleshed out, it fundamentally changed the way you played the game, and made things much more difficult than on normal settings. I would usually add these to the Hybrid Hives (which I assume is a small taste of what this iteration of Nemesis will be like) to make it super challenging.

Just a few more thousand to go to make this epic fantasy a reality!

I am so excited about that one, too. :D

For anyone who missed Keith's explanation post of the horrors that the new Nemesis represents, here it is: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arcengames/ai-war-ii-0/posts/1762476

Hoo boy.  ;D

Actually, upon re-reading the description of the Nemesis, a thought struck me.

Is the Nemesis going to be a replacement for the Advanced Hybrids?  It sounds... rather similar.

I think you're the first one to notice ;) Or to say so, anyway.

Similar to how the AIW2 Spire goal was a refinement and focusing of the AIWC Fallen Spire feature, the AIW2 Nemesis goal is a refinement and focusing of the AIWC Hybrids feature. The differences are more radical, though, because the Hybrid design was more of an impediment to the goals for Hybrids than the FS design was to its own goals. Hybrids were my first serious attempt at designing a major AIW feature.

So rather than messing around with the hybrids' quasi-economic/growth/flock-behavior simulation, which diluted their impact in making AIW a fundamentally more menacing and ominous, the Nemesis is just straight-up Ominous Menace :)

It's also an excellent mechanic to drill the pilot holes for full-on Three-Sided (and N-Sided) war.

See, this is why y'all are awesome; I was thinking that Hybrids would benefit from being concentrated into a smaller number of stronger units, but didn't think to take that all the way to the logical conclusion.

I'm totally modding in a 'war of attrition' mode for the Nemesis where it wanders around dropping Troop Accelerators on AI planets.  Wouldn't want it running out of ships to eat, now would we?

You're gonna have hooks to synchronize Nemesis behaviors with CPAs, right?

I'm glad we hit the spire goal, because I'm totally modding in a Core Photon Lance Turret Controller.  Hope the Nemesis has a mode for circle strafing, cause its gonna need it.

One of the behaviors is planting threat-producing structures (basically space docks on auto) on neutral planets, actually. No particular reason it couldn't do it on AI planets, except that it's harder to hunt them down.

The usual "concentration of force" shenanigans will apply :)

I feel like there's going to be so much variety in terms of what can be done with a Nemesis. I am excited to play with all the options it will have

Hehe, I love KickTraq

"Current: $89,807. Projected, low: $89,152"
As in, ~$650 less than current. :D

Including the last Paypal total given, we're over (yay, Hybri-, er, Nemesis!) - and it looks like KS will surpass the mark in a few hours, anyway.
We might even make it to the Big Guns   >D

Will any more stretch goals be announced after that?

Edit:  And we're over, yay!  Spire and Nemesis are GO!

Weyhey!

Doom is here!

No, we're not weird for celebrating impending doom. Not at all.

Now on to more sources of doom!

Dooooom doooom doooom...

Well, as it happens, I've got some very large weapons useful for hunting interplanetary predators. They're available for a phenomenal fee...

Sorry, I personally don't have vast amounts of metal to spend on such things at the moment. Hold on while I secure a large portion of asteroid mining rights in this galaxy.
