I notice there's a reddit post about the Kickstarter over at https://www.reddit.com/r/Games if anyone wants to join in the discussion.

Edit: And the post has just been removed because the user accidentally posted a referral link....dagnabit!

Anyone associated with Arcen professionally can't do that or it gets removed. Nor can we ask someone to do that. And no, that is not a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" kind of thing. We seriously don't want people to post it because "the developers wanted me to" or anything like that. If it gets picked up naturally, that will be amazing. If not, such is life.

It allready is up again: https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/56uad7/ai_war_ii_kickstarter/

But is it normal to see: "Explain your answer! Top Level comments that just answer a question with no justification will just be removed."?

Some subreddits (generally more popular ones) have customized things like that to make sure everyone has seen the rule their comment may or maynot get removed due to.

It is just kind of misleading, since this sounds as if a question is asked. So I thought maybe the thread was posted as a question by accident or something.
Thank you for the answer.

How is it going? I backed at the $65 mark. Not seeing a lot of press right now. By my estimations, we need at least 7000 players. I'm worried that the bar was set too high. Going to do some posting tonight and try to get the word out.

Not all of america has finished working, so there might still be a big push coming in some hours. Also there might be some press releases on its way.
At the moment is seems that mostly hardcore fans are using kickstarter (60$ average spending for a 20$ game (without soundtrack)).

I know that we are currently reaching out to press about this. We also made the "Projects We Love" list, which is great news, since that puts us up on KS's popular projects list.

We currently have 6% of the funding done, which I don't think is too bad for the first 6 hours. Of course, I've never done KS so I could be horribly wrong.

I guess for me in no small part is how much word gets out.

The core group has hit strong. The numbers are ridiculous. The 65 to 300 dollar tiers are selling very fast. But after that burst there needs to be a groundswell of players who get that 25 dollar mark.

Steam has yet to get hit with a new article about this coming out. Indeed...aside from the email list there was no announcement or formal press release about this coming out which is...unusual. So that needs to come out asap.

Aside from that, I know on steam developers do "events" that describe different things. This is a great way to remind players who have it on their library but have not thought about it in forever to be jolted back into thinking about the game. Doing an event once a week could make an impact. Even if a player doesn't actually watch it, just having that tool tip come out saying "AI War - AIW 2 progress" can get more eyeballs.
Life is short. Have fun.

Unless something drastic happens we should get funding.  :D Can't speak to stretch goals.

It's a federal holiday in the US. We'll have a bit of press tomorrow (and Chris's working on something for the front page/Steam news).

Well it depends on the kind of kickstarter you are running.

If you have a lot of paid advertisement planned for the end of kickstarter, you can get a big push then: https://www.funded.today/blog/the-myth-of-the-kickstarter-spike-at-the-end

If you have lots of community goals and interaction you can do it over time: http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/PhilomenaSchwab/20160609/274252/Niche__a_communitybased_Kickstarter_campaign.php

But quite some kickstarters seam to make about 50% of their money the first 3 days.

I don't have large scale data, but the projects I've followed have varied pretty considerably. One of them got 50% of its goal on day one. Several of the others were more like 10%, then had a strong day 2 as word of mouth spread and the fanbase came out. Then there was an extended lull, and another burst at the end.

Given that today is a holiday and press coverage isn't really there yet, tomorrow will likely tell us a lot. Today is good because someone who sees a story tomorrow and looks at it will see that the project has significant backing. Which is good, because you need those people, as you can't get there just on people willing to drop $300-$5000 at a time.

Yes, I had much the same thought here. The core group showed up and paid a premium. That in itself is a show of support. I think we can get there, but we need to do some work on the PR front. I'm doing what I can right now.

What I tell people is that you need to get the hype train started before the project goes live on Kickstarter.  Yea, you've got us here on the forums but you need the standard marketing too.  The idea that "if you haven't hit your goal by Day 2, you're not doing well" comes from that.

Not saying that the bump can't come later, because it can, there's just no point in "saving" the advertising until the middle of the campaign.  Tell Gamasutra (etc) the week before so they have some time to look over things and write an article so that it goes live early in the campaign.

Anyway, enough hindsight ;)

I just wanted to mention that I lied about pledging $250. Have my $300 instead. :)
