Slovak, huh.
Slavic. Slovak is a country, a nationality. Slavic is an etnicity.

D'oh. I knew what I was writing wasn't correct, but I was completely blank on alternatives.

I think the idea is going to be along the lines of "let Dom manage the English version" (e.g. upload the xml file) and have an interface for selecting a language from a dropdown, which would then display on one side the English text and have an editable spot for the translation for that language.

At any point a translated file could be pulled down based on those entries.

Whether or not this would be an "anyone edit" or a "give specific users edit access to specific languages" I don't know.

In an ideal world, I'd have it automatically pull the xml file from the repository, then it would be editable in the same way the wiki is.

What you'd need a translation management software for exactly ? You want to make it "non-coder proof" ? Which features are you looking for ? What are the limitations you're facing which make you want php ? Do you have a database that you can use on your server ?

More important, when do you need that ? 'Cause it's been a while, but I have done some php before too.
The biggest thing we need it for is to allow for our community to easily collaborate and make translations of the games. Ideally, we'd want it to be able to allow multiple people to edit the same translation and keep a log of it, like the wiki does. The reason behind wanting it in PHP is the rest of the site is in PHP, and Python/Jboss doesn't play well with other systems. I've been having difficulty getting Django to work, which is a basic part of Python, and installing Wildfly is not the easiest of things to do, despite seeming pretty easy, though I suspect I'm just missing something obvious. We do have databases that can be used as needed.

As to when, its been on my list for a while now, but it is a really low priority overall. For the most part, it can be considered a little pet project of mine, like the IRC room was.

I might have found some software that will do what I want, but I still have to to test it, so I'll get back to everyone on that. Meanwhile, if you're interested, it can be seen at arcengames.com/dev.
Come help out at the Wiki!

Try http://arcengames.com/dev/translate/

For me it asks for a login and my forum one doesn't work.

With all of that, you'd still need someone you can trust to overview translation quality for each language, which would be a few hours of work each time if not more. How do you plan on solving that ?

That said... there is no complex features in a translation software. It should be fast to code. Which is probably why no pure-php software exists...

In any case, no kickstarter news today ? It needs to live !

Still nothing ?
Those guys make 50 news in 3 weeks ! It's about the norm for their projects though. Still most of Europe is going to bed now !

There's no lack of stuff to present, each "chapter" of the DD could be a news to be discussed, for example. Some news about art. Some news about the music.

IMO, if people don't want to be bothered by the "frequent news", they can unregister from the newsletter.

Yes I agree the pace of news needs to pick up. Significantly. This current pace is simply failing.
Life is short. Have fun.

The issue isn't a lack of interest or a lack of subject matter, the issue is that I work full time and Chris wears too many hats already.  ;)

Now that we're aware there's of the slowdown points we're going to put together a lot more content ahead of time. Should be the last time you see an update drought.

Well this is not good. The KS has stalled.

We have two choices. Admit defeat, spiral into depression, or look at the fact we collectively have 26 days to put effort into selling this product.

Don't give up.

I'm doing my part! Turns put that my college buddies were big SC2 fans a few years back and they're modestly interested. Getting them to put $20 in (or try Classic) is the first step.

prepare the next kickstarter campaign
There won't be another Kickstarter campaign. If this doesn't succeed, Arcen scales development waaaaaaaaay back until Chris has the funds to self-publish something larger. Not to be all doom-y, but this is it.  :)

No chance of talking to a publisher? Seems like the kind of game some of them would be interested in, and a publisher can help with some of the attention getting stuff that Arcen has a difficult time with. That's what they do, after all.

The current funding trend for the Kickstarter puts it short by 23% of the minimum needed funding.

So. Not good.

it's unfortunately and sadly even less then that as it's probably still counting the big backers on the first 3 days.

My experience is that there's a big rush the first days as the enthusiasts drop their pledges, then a slow trickle over time. As the kickstarter approaches the end, people make their final decision on if the project will succeed or not and either drop their pledges in for that final push, or give up.

What we need is more coverage I think. We've had a fair few bigger sites covering it already. Like GoG and RPS. Where else?
