Just wanted to let folks know I'll be out today and next week, traveling. I have another brief trip in August but otherwise will be around through the release of 1.0 in October.
Last week I was on fire, productivity-wise, but this week has been more quiet and introspective. I wrote up a long thing yesterday that I chose not to post, relating to my state of mind and concern for the future. I'm super pleased with where the game is right now, and where it can be taken, but I still can't shake the feeling that the market is going to force me out after I finish up all my full kickstarter commitments foe this game, rather than allowing me to keep expanding and growing it.
Losing money for four years straight will do that, and the article from kotaku about a lot of indies being forced out by the algorithm changes Steam made last October didn't help. I haven't been hit quite as hard as some indies, but it hasn't been pretty, and whatever Valve did apparently isn't something they're going to reverse.
So... yeah. In life I'm pretty happy lately, but in work I'm definitely worried about what the 1.0 will be received like, and what will happen after. I don't have a choice on the timing anymore, which I've known all this year, but I guess never mentioned. Though most of this year 1.0 was supposed to be this prior May, but I took extra time because of the divorce and the fleets build. So actually the extra time has been a luxury at this point, and the game is stronger for it.
Anyway, my hope is to come back with clarity and focus on the last things for 1.0, and then we'll see what happens after that.
