AI Personality questions
« on: October 03, 2016, 11:02:14 pm »
So... I was looking at the document in the usual manner, you know, find where Chris last edited and read up, and I have a few questions now about AI Personalities:

What happens to the AI personalit?y that owned a system if it reconquers?? Does the same personalit?y get it back, or does the conquering personalit?y get to move in?
Also, does the #41 personalit?y send those ships that it's vengeful about in it's exos? If so it can get recursivel?y evil.

These are just a few of mine. I recommend reading up on the section as it's an interesting change to the formula. More AI Variety, while guaranteeing that one particular AI obnoxious behavior won't be the rule all the way across the galaxy. Instead there will be MANY varied obnoxious AI behaviors across the galaxy so you won't get bored in your frustration >:D

Each personality will be in control of a single solar system, generally speaking.
When the galaxy map is seeded, it first picks a list of all the personalities you said HAVE to be there.  It then randomly places them in control of solar systems as much as possible.
Then whatever personalities are left that are allowed are seeded at random in any remaining solar systems.
If for some reason there are too few personalities available (let’s say you only allowed a single personality, as an extreme example), then it will randomly pull repeats to fill out all the solar systems.  But barring that situation, it won’t do any repeats in a given campaign.
It will also assign personalities to solar systems that the AI does not initially control, so that if the AI winds up producing ships there it knows what personality to use.

From the above, each solar system has an assigned personality.  Even in systems not under AI control so if it does come under AI control, there is a personality waiting there.  Everything that personality does is defined in its XML, so the answer to the rest would be defined there. :)

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Wouldn't it be more interesting if the system lost it's personality once the AI was gone, and a new one from the list moved in when it was reconquered. You won't know what you'll get if you let them build another beachhead :D

Ooh, you can make it an option if people don't like it. Call it Artificial Amnesia :D

I dunno, though I highly suspect it's this way 'cause technical reasons.  And that's my 100% legit answer.

It's easier from a technical standpoint, yeah, but "Artificial Amnesia" would be a good idea for maybe later, if you want to post that there.  Could be fun!

Regarding the other questions, I've updated the document to hopefully make those pieces clearer.  I'd rather answer there than here, if that makes sense, because I'd like the source document to be clear.  If there's anything still unclear in it, please let me know!
