Failed pledges -- interesting data.
« on: December 19, 2016, 11:01:19 am »
On the subject of failed pledges, about 3% of the pledge total had an initial error, so $2,974.  That was in the ballpark of 138 individual pledges that failed -- probably slightly higher than that, since Keith and I ran our numbers at different times.

Already the number of errored pledges has dropped to 134, so that's coming along.  There's a two-week period for pledge collection and fixing, and we get the money after that.  We scheduled this for December 19th specifically so that the day we get the money would be next year, and thus not eat us in taxes right at the end of this year.  We'd have had to have higher funding goals based on tax brackets and whatnot if it was appended to this year.

Quite a bit of planning went into this. :)

If folks are interested in other (anonymous/aggregate) data that we can figure out, please let us know.

I just want to ask somethign about the failed stretch goals. However, Interplanetary guns might stll be in the game since there are also the Kickstarter and the failed pledges.
But the last one is unlikely, you could however at any point after the release put that one in the first expansion of the game. Just an idea.

In my case, my bank card was updated without my knowledge; got the new card and the old one was deactivated as soon as I activated the new one.

Best of luck!

We hit that one thanks to paypal backers!  No worries at all.

More on that soon. :)

Ah yeah, I'm not surprised -- that sort of thing does happen for sure.  Or getting an updated one and the dates and code on the back change, etc.  Or in some cases the bank will block a transaction that looks suspicious and then call you before releasing payment on it.  I've had that happen with some Amazon purchases I made before, and once even at a Walmart.

So I imagine that in a lot of cases it's just procedural stuff like that.

In my case it probably has something to do with the card being an Electron an not officially supported by Kickstarter. Has worked before though.

It's probably for the best, to be honest. Shame that I won't get the early bird alpha backer reward but $44 is a lot of money for me right now, and as long as it's possible to be a late backer I can see how my financial situation develops in early 2017.

Some of the tiers are available through backerkit, so they'll be available for a while if you want to jump in later. Barring that, you can always just buy it once early access starts. :)

It's all good!  They give various chances to change cards or similar, or there is always either paypal or backerkit at any point in the future, or Steam or Humble or similar starting in late May.  The backerkit preorder store is up in a basic fashion so far, too: https://aiwar2.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

And that will be something you can evaluate later, as you say.

We're now down to 91 failed pledges, and I'm not sure what the total amount is.  Keith would have to run another scrape for that total, since Kickstarter doesn't collate that for us for whatever reason.  Either way we're within the margin of error that we'd budgeted for already, which is good.

Actually I ran a quick "ghetto screen scrape" (copy paste to excel), which worked to my surprise.  We're down to just 87 failed pledges at this point, with a combined total that is down to $2,838.

When Keith ran the numbers at 2pm EST yesterday, he was finding a total of $4,534, or about 4.7%, that was failing.  So that was a lot higher than the first number of $2,974 that we found, simply because they hadn't finished processing all the pledges at all yet when we ran that (oops).

Anyhow -- big improvement. :)

My Charge shows as a hold currently, it'll probably go through eventually.

Down to 73 failed pledges, for a total of $2386! :)

That cuts into our buffer less and less, which means more polish time or small extra doodads or who knows what. It goes to the game in some form.

How does one tell if their pledge failed? I'm pretty sure mine went in but I want to be certain.

I don't wanna miss out on those music files >.> <.<

You should get an email from Kickstarter. If not, try logging in and checking your pledge history.

I got an email that mine succeeded. If not sure, login and check your account as Draco said. There would be a notice of some kind. This link should go directly to your backed project list: https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/backings?ref=user_menu
