Distorted / Pixelish graphics on Linux (Ubuntu 18.04)
« on: October 19, 2018, 01:52:18 pm »
Hi,

(I posted that on the Steam forum, too, but maybe here is a better place).

I'm using the Linux version on Ubuntu 18.04 with NVidia GTX 960 (4 GB) and 32 GB RAM, official Nvidia drivers version 396.54. OpenGL version is 4.6.0.

I get very pixelated backgrounds and black areas on the 3D objects. Menus, icons and weapon effects are displayed fine.

Here's a screenshot showing the problem:

I'm playing lots of games on it using Steam (both native and Windows games using Steam Play) with much bigger graphics requirements than AI War 2, so I'm a bit puzzled about that.

Are there any advanced graphics settings I can try? Is there a log file anywhere?

Thanks!

Log files are located under [SteamInstallDirectory]/AIWar2/PlayerData/

I'm not sure what settings would work best, but have you tried turning all the advanced features off, and turning them on one by one?

Where can I do this? The graphics settings just allow me to switch between window and fullscreen, and change resolution.

By the way, here's the latest graphics-related part of the log file:

Hm, I thought the more advanced settings were in there. Guess not.

I don't see anything in there that would be a problem, and it looks like your NVIDIA driver is up to date. Have you tried reinstalling?

No, unfortunately not. Is there a config file one can edit in a text editor for trying different settings?

Deleting and re-installing in Steam does not change the issue :(

Okay, I've found the solution.

My NVidia driver settings for antialiasing and anisotropic filtering were set to "override". I have now set them to "use application settings", and finally AI War 2 shows up in all its visual glory :)
