AI reacting to minor factions
« on: October 02, 2018, 06:39:53 am »
Hello, everyone. Sorry if this topic has been done to death before - I've tried searching, but the last topic I can find on this is from 2016, before the Pivot. I'm also reading about AI War 2 for the first time, so I might have the wrong end of the stick on some matters.

Minor Factions are awesome. I notice that the AIW2 Minor Factions seem to have considerably more latitude to expand and conquer than the AIW:FC minor factions did. So how does the AI - which is supposed to be both pretty smart and in possession of vast resources - respond to these growing threats? Does it attempt to contain them? Does it ever recognise "ok, this is going too far - destroying the Marauders just became a priority" and throw exo-waves or similar at them?

The AI tracks a version of "AI Progress" for each minor faction, and uses that for strength calculation when sending waves against that minor faction. The Hunter Fleet (AIW2's Threat Fleet) also will attack minor factions.

It's worth noting that the only minor factions that will try to conquer parts of the galaxy are the Nanocaust and the Marauders. The AI will definitely try to destroy Macrophages, but it doesn't try that hard at it, since they are more like Devourer Golems.

Nice! Is it intended to get to the point where the AI will just steamroller a minor faction off the map entirely?

If the AI difficulty is high enough and the minor faction's intensity is low enough, that will probably happen eventually. Otherwise "It depends"
