It's out now!

In terms of how promising (or lack thereof) this looks based on current projections... yeah, we definitely know.  Please don't let that stop you from backing if you haven't already (anyone reading), because it won't charge your card or anything if the thing fails.  But by backing at least a dollar, you get notifications about what is going on, including updates on whatever happens next with the kickstarter if it slides sideways too much.

There are a variety of options we have on the table short of "just give up," and we're looking into those pretty rapidly behind the scenes.  Trying to really figure out as many of those possibilities as we can, so that we can choose the best one.  In the meantime, hopefully folks can carry on as if this kickstarter has a chance, because who knows -- it might.  We only need 3% of the players of Classic to back this for it to be a success, so this isn't a huge percentage of our players or anything like that.  It's just very hard to reach those customers at all at the moment, even though they're our customers already. :/

Well, I had the notification.

And a smallish new "AI War II" is out button on the front page of the game.

Oh yes, if they did, that's not so good.

Already backed myself. :D

Just trying to ensure "no stone left unturned" type of thing. I'm kind of surprise by numbers at this stage. It seems odd you've not seemed to reach at least 5% of the player base.

I wonder whether people are pretty much nervous about kick starters now. I've only backed three others. The first was full of promise, but ended up being completely different from what was being promised. The second was just plain a bait and switch once the kickstarter complete. The third went above and beyond expectation. And now your the fourth - the difference being I know the company and love most of the products you've done particularly AI War and Skyward Collapse, so backing it was a no-brainer. :)

It's not Kickstarter or crowdfunding specific -- it's a natural result of the supply of independent games VASTLY outstripping the demand for them. We only have so much free time, so people start being picky about where they spend it. They go for the major established hits and just don't pay attention to the rest. Since the games media is an outgrowth of the fan scene, games media writes more about the big hits to keep people's attention.

It's why things are scary for the average indie developer even when indie games are more popular than ever.

Good points, and yes very scary.

We're spoiled for choice these days and the flood of indie games on Steam makes it hard to get noticed. What's extremely frustrating is seeing such a gem of a game being overlooked on steam, kickstarter, gog, etc.

Hence trying to nudge the current player base directly via a notification in the lobby makes sense.

I'm really puzzled why it would not show up.  I've put it in here: http://aiwar.s3.amazonaws.com/newupdates/AIWarBetaUpdates4.xml

Do you have updates turned on in settings?

There is a bug in the stuff being served by amazon s3 for some reason, and I'm looking into it -- sorry about that!  I'm not sure if it's something that changed with S3 or if I mangled an xml file myself.  I have been running around all day with my hair on fire, so to speak, and this has slipped through the cracks...

Don't worry Chris. Just get the Kickstarter stuff done first and then work on this issue.

For what its worth; I tested the Steam and GOG versions for both Windows & OSX - all of them showed the notification in the lobby after the update came through.
