I wish I could back more, but I'm really dead broke. So you'll have to make do with my modest contribution. Good luck Arcen!

There, I backed it.  The choice for me out of all of those was pretty darn obvious, yep.

....also it's amazing as to just how much of this is already done at this point.    It's at $41,499 as I type this.

Added my pledge now. Its funny how Kicktraq now shows that the kickstarter is trending to 690.575$. I think realistic amount could be around 100.000$ which should be fine for all the current + one new stretch goal.

I think that's actually how a Kickstarter has to be to be successful. Attention decays exponentially with time, usually on the scale of a few days to a week. Stretch goals help provide the sustain - a fairly constant stream of new things to get excited about and to generate new little exponentially decaying blips of attention (e.g. from people talking about it, rallying 'hey we gotta get this past X, just a little more!', increasing their pledges a little to push it over, etc). But if you don't make it into that fairly early, its hard to get there once the initial surge ends.

I wonder if we put the new campaign and the old side by side, if we can actually see the effect morale and early success has.

As close as you can get.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Welp, by the time I checked there was exactly 1 personable AI slot left. Took it as a sign, so sorry guys if you were looking for that.

Wow, those are gone already?

Glad I was able to grab one, then.   I almost waited until tomorrow to do it, because, you know, laziness.

I'm interested in seeing how painful the Misery AI will be, and wondering if there will also be another Misery difficulty to get beat on...

If possible, you may want to link the new kickstarter prominently on the old kickstarter's page. The old one's still the top result for me, so this might get some extra traffic.

More $ and more pledges than the first campaign. Brilliant! Lots and lots of people coming back from the failed one to make this a success. Way more exciting than the first one where most people went "here's my pledge, but $300,000?? No way!"

Congrats, guys! AI War 2 is gonna be a thing.

Nah, I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to this game.  If they're going to name one after a forum member, there's certainly plenty of others that would definitely be appropriate for that one.  Chances are that many here can think of a couple of examples.

Heya folks!  Sorry on being slow to respond here -- soooo many things to sort out all over the place with a launch like this.  To various comments (apologies if I miss anything directed at me):

1. We're at $46k, 92% funded now, at just under 17 hours in!  This is a lot higher than the first campaign, but I expected this simply because we have so many people returning from the first one.  It was kind of a captive audience that was easy to bring back, even though realistically I think we have under a third of them back so far (and about half the pledge amount, interestingly).  So there are some new folks as well, or people upped their pledges, or both.

2. I fixed the errors in the rewards image there -- thanks for noting those!

3. Unfortunately I can't update the actual original kickstarter page at all anymore, because those become locked when a campaign ends (successfully, failure, or canceled).  The successful projects that you see with edits are ones that are editing a spotlight page, which is different from the actual campaign page -- and only successful campaigns get a spotlight page.  It makes sense, because they want to prevent devs from going back and editing the promises they made after a campaign is over.

4. The website and blog and steam pages and email lists and so on have all seen updates now, thankfully.  So many places...

5. My projection for this one, personally, is that we might be able to top $100k, but just barely.  That will be a battle between the bad time of year against the momentum from the first kickstarter as well as the general excitement that people have on projects that over-fund.  I think that $300k is ridiculously out of reach for this one, but I could be wrong; right now we're seeing a huge surge thanks to people coming back who were already aware and waiting for it, though.  Judging by some graphs, I think maybe $6k are pledges from people who did not back the first time, though, so that's something.  Actually I see that there are exports for that, so I can get better numbers on that front, hmm.  I'll do that later on, since that will be a point of interest.

6. At any rate, this definitely looks like it's going to be a thing this time. :)  So that's something we're extremely happy about and grateful for!  My heart won't rest entirely easy until we pass that first stretch goal and have funding for Pablo, but we look set to do that okay.

If you think it'll just top $100k, that makes me think it's important to come up with a really enticing stretch goal for $110k or $125k - something that during the last week people might up their pledges to try to hit.

For sure.  It will be really good to have a number of goals that people are excited about there.

That said, if we hit our funding goal and also fund Pablo, there's a limit to how much I'm going to try to squeeze every last dime on this first kickstarter.  That first $65k will get us to a really awesome 1.0 launch, and there's plenty of time between now and then to push onwards from that level.

I mean, obviously we're going to try to hit as high a target as we can -- but I keep telling myself the above to try to calm my nerves. ;)
