The new wormholes are really nice! I propose maybe slowing their motion down a bit, they move fast enough to be a bit distracting for me. Instantly fell in love with the Science Generators, the motion is so much fun to watch. Also really love the new AI Warp Gates, they look amazing with the new wormhole graphics.

I just spent like 5 minutes staring at the new science generator model.  When zoomed in close, with the tumble and spin and the new metal and lighting effects...  Sexy.  Drool worthy.  Still shots don't do this effect justice, but objects in motion are amazing.

Are derelicts going to work as detailed in the first design doc? The new design doc mentions them a couple times, but it doesn't clearly define them - or at least not in the detail found in the old doc (and this time I made sure to check the kickstarter page before posting ;) ).

There are two kinds of derelicts currently in the alpha:
- The resource points, which you can claim after you've claimed the controller. Actually, the controller is basically a derelict from the mechanical standpoint, it's just owned by the AI at first and you have to kill it (and any guardians present) before you can claim it.
- The flagships, which you can claim under similar conditions. The difference, of course, is that they're mobile and powerful :)

The resource points were divided up into derelicts (metal, power, and fuel; where the idea is that there's a facility that produces those things and you're just bringing those facilities back online) and husks (science and hacking; where the idea is that you'll never get those things operational again, but you can recover a limited amount of information from them). But we may wind up just calling them all derelicts, whether or not some of them can be "restored" to working order.

Interesting! In that case, I'm not sure the model really fits the idea of 'so hopelessly broken that all we can do is get a few scraps of useful info from it'; on the contrary, it looks so sleek and fancy that it seems it would be better used as something that provides a more permanent benefit, like maybe a power derelict.

It actually looks like it would make a good starship design, with the forked end being the opening of some weapon (railcannon, maybe?). If you upsized it, it may even be a good interplanetary weapon ...

Of course, you guys probably don't have a bunch of spare models laying around, so thoughts like that can be filed away for later.

Also, would it be possible to have the derelicts change appearance somewhat as they get repaired? Just something simple (at least to a non-graphic designer ;)) like all the lights being off initially and blinking on one by one as it's repaired, and/or the moving parts being initially stationary and only moving once repaired?

That's how I designed the prototypes.  I didn't know how they were going to be used in the end.

Yea, he just built the car. He had no idea we were going to wrap it around a tree and send the hulk floating off into space. We're kind of hard on our toys.

At least the nice sexy shininess got adopted for style.  I like shiny  8)

That wasn't me :p

The reflective metallic surfaces are though.

The reflective metallic surfaces are Cinth? I guess that means he is secretly Spire.

I can't stress enough, neon hurts my eyes. There is no breathable air in space, thematically and ideally there should be no floating neon.

I agree with Gavin; can we get the wormhole rotation speed slowed down a bit?

Oh thank goodness I can post again -- for now, at least. Long story.  My account is fairly borked on the forums and wiki, though, long story short.

Regarding the spin:

* The wormhole graphics have been substantially slowed down in their rotation so as not to be so distracting.

Not on the wiki yet, because I still can't post there yet.

Regarding the neon: that's something that will either evolve (ala icons) to be less neon, or I'll have tonemapping options built in later so that you can choose how you want it to feel a bit better.  I had a much better response on this written up, but the forums ate it, apologies.  But I did want to let you know I'm not ignoring you on this one.

Cheers! *fingers crossed this posts....*

Does your account going haywire explain why a bunch of mantis bugs wound up assigned to seemingly random individuals?

Good catch! I'll leave Chris to reassign the issues. For information regarding the account going haywire, see https://arcengames.com/recent-hacking-attempt/

Yep, it was that.  I'm currently locked out of mantis, though, so I'll get to those when I am able to get back in there.
