We've got about 10ish ships/turrets/etc that have not yet been integrated into the prep project by Cinth or myself, but those will be something he starts tackling on next Wednesday.  For some of the ones that are already done, like I think missile turrets, that's more of a Keith thing -- the model is there, but I'm not sure if the code isn't ready for it or what the deal is.
I think I forgot the model was done. Anyway, that's in my next batch of content work once the current icondämmerung is done.

Ah, got it.  Makes sense!

And yeah, this icondämmerung is a really good term for this.  I don't think I've been so stuck on one thing for so long in the last four or so years.  I'm probably just blocking out some bad memory, but this is a pretty concrete and small thing and so I feel like I'd remember, heh. ;)

I'm wondering if the icondämmerung means that Chris is going to triumph in the end, or if it means that a horde of crazed icons will dance merrily over the smoking ruins of Chris' house.....

Well it could be both, they could dance merrily over the smoking ruins of his house and then he can still triumph in the end. Also

So... yeah, looks like this is a tomorrow thing.  BadgerBadger, you called it.  :-\

On the plus side, I'm getting in some of the benefits of #1 and #2 in the approach I'm taking.  Not much of anything from #3 -- that was a dead end because of batching needs.  This new system does all the things I want it to, though, and it doesn't include any super-insane math.  There's still a lot of tidying up to do, and my re-architecture still isn't fully up into the new method yet.  But it's getting close.

If it makes anyone here feel better, I'm probably more frustrated than you are.  :P

That said, I look forward to hopefully getting back to the more-usual release schedule after this one is out.

I like being right! I don't like that I have to wait! My ego is confused about what to feel.

Ah well. Has Keith come up with anything else new and fancy while you've been in the slough of icons?

This gave me a really good chuckle.  I appreciate that.  :D

I'm not sure -- he'll have to tell you.  I've been absolutely destroying svn repeatedly in terms of things going through that I wanted to save but not really keep forever in terms of functional code, so he's been avoiding checking anything in.  I don't know if he's waiting for stability and instead working on non-code stuff, or if he's been just coding locally and has stuff to put in once I stop thrashing.

I've been planning. 0.114 has a bunch of stuff from before the svn got caught in the icon crossfire, though.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to seeing the GUI changes you put in, and the Objectives window.

Makes good sense to me. :)

At this point I have it in there rendering "properly" with the icons (mostly), although with an offset I need to correct, and not yet with the collision masks.  Ironically with the approach I took it's dynamic batching like crazy.  There are some issues with the batching at the moment that seem to have nothing to do with the LODs that Cinth defined, but which rather are to do with a bug in the LOD code.  And that's completely unrelated to the icons, too.  So just another thing I need to sort out, though it doesn't have to be before this next release.  I don't think it's brand new.

Anyhow, I have to fix the offsets, get the scaling in there, and then get the secondary info like health, flair, protected status, mark level, mode, etc, all rendering.  Those bits are freaking trivial once all the central math stuff is fixed.  Then I need to get the galaxy map showing icons again, for your ark and things you find, etc.

The billboarding code isn't working properly right now solely because there are strange offsets, so that causes it to rotate around an uneven axis, which is no big deal.  Out of all the issues this has had, that should be comparably straightforward because I can look one icon at a time rather than them as a group.  You should have seen the many different psychadellic variants over the last two days. ;)

Fingers crossed, tomorrow is looking good.

Heck yeah -- offsetting fixed. :D

I've got to run for the night, but that's a huge win.  Now I can finish up the actual content stuff tomorrow.

I think there was a weird little bug with either the forums or my internet, when I made that comment I looked through the comments multiple times and that one didn't show up for whatever reason.

Oof, that's a disturbing one if it's in the middle of the list of stuff.  Our servers do seem to be haunted by ghosts (not actually the hackers, just stuff "legit" breaking from updates and whatnot), but that's a new one.  I really hope that error was between the keyboard and desk, heh.

Are we looking good for today!?!?! Or have the icons plotted revenge overnight and counterattacked?
