Smoke and debris
« on: October 05, 2016, 07:23:35 pm »
Is it possible to have smoke and debris?

To give a little bit of context for what I want to contribute as a long time member, I'm in favor of anything that increases player agency. I'll make another thread about that, but basically, I want a player's experience to feel unique and special to them, and I want the way the game plays out and the way it feels to be individual to the player. In the case of a battle scene, being able to see the carnage left behind and have a wow moment that's the actual result of something the player did and a visual uniqueness from having a unique battle, it adds to that concept of player agency.

I always love debris, especially persistent debris. As a way to reduce the performance impact, have the debris slowly drift down to the local gravity well and disappear eventually.

I also think it would be cool if capital ships would start smoking or have a slightly different model with some blast holes in it once they take damage. Same for major defensive structures.

Yes, have it gradually orbit into the planet.

I love Debris in Space games like this. It leads to shots like this one I attached.
Just that guy who hides behind walls of death hoping that they stay up.

...I'd swear that space station was the one I made in college ten years ago.  Except I know its not because the flash drive I stored the project on up and died half way through the semester.

Looks like Sins of a Solar Empire, Star Trek mod.

I was going to say it looked like a UFP Starbase, but I wasn't sure if any other franchises used a similar design.
