[Community] AI War Balance Federation
« on: August 30, 2016, 07:26:26 pm »
I think in the beginning, things will be all right for balance. But, I think we need to create a community group where we can focus on balance post release, when Chris or Keith are done with it. This is for much later.

For 1 or 2?

And in what universe are you residing that either game doesn't get support post release?

Edit: This sounds a lot harsher than it's meant to be.  Think more friendly ribbing than anything else :)

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

We're going to need support from you guys during EA for sure, and really from the start.  There are all sorts of models that you guys have been running on things like this, and there's nothing like crowdsourcing in order to get something like this really tuned.

In the very earliest EA versions, what we'll likely do is slap some vaguely-maybe-okay numbers in there, while we focus on mechanics.  Players in those rounds can probably then hash out some of the balance bits, while we focus on the things that players can't.

Not that we won't be paying any attention to balance, but there's a lot to do and it's hard to balance when you don't have as much time to really sit down and play.  In the early early days, that will likely be the case for us, just so we can get to as full a working model as quickly as possible.

No worries, I know where you're coming from. I was just thinking that there is inevitably going to be a community balance mod. We have more collective time to play than the developers do.

I knew where you were going with that idea.  I took the opportunity to rib you a little there (all in good fun  :) )

I have no doubt that the community will create their own balance (and I hope some awesome new toys too).
