How bloby is AI2?


In AI war 1 combat mostly consisted of making a blob of units and throwing it at the AI. Dont get me wrong, AI1 is one of my faves, because figuring out where an when to swing your blob is a hard choice . I  was wondering if the combat of AI 2 still focuses mostly on where to fight rather than how, or if more supervision is needed during combat?
