Zenith mirrors?
« on: February 18, 2011, 08:42:21 am »
I notice that they're described as being 'Very weak to... melee attacks, since those cannot be reflected', but I also notice that a reasonably recent update has made them immune to blade attacks and fusion cutters. Might be worth editing that bit of the description?

In a related note, has anyone actually seen the shot reflection happening? I haven't, but then again, that could just be me not looking very carefully.

Well, that just means I suck at observation mid battle.  ;D

Good to know they are working. They would be pretty worthless if that ability was not working.

I saw them reflecting last night whilst being attacked by some of my teleporting leeches. I'm kind of curious what would happen if I was killed with my own reflected reclamation shot. Does the AI reclaim my ship at that point? I'll need to go sacrifice a damaged leech to the cause of science.

They do only reflect at ranges they're capable of shooting themselves.. maybe you're firing from outside their range? That said, their range is rather impressive, so maybe not. And they don't reflect missiles either.. but load a few riot ships with lasers and you'll see a lot of reflection

Lol. Or send teleport raiders against some mirrors, and wonder what happened to them.

Specifically, it's from Nerf Now by Jo Pereira, which is frequently hilarious if you're familiar with the games he pokes fun at.  It also has absurdly cute versions of the strangest things, like drones from StarCraft.

I've recently thought of submitting that to mantis, but I figured that since spire mini-rams are melee ships and perhaps able to attack mirrors.  I could be wrong, though.

They're immune to Fusion Cutters because otherwise Vampires would be invincible while attacking mirrors, and Viral Shredders would spawn something like two extra Shredders every hit, making them ridiculous.  They're immune to Blade attacks because Cutlasses have a bad habit of instagibbing themselves on mirrors because of the 10x damage thing (no reflect needed!).  That leaves Blade Spawners as the only ship that's unable to attack mirrors that should be able to, but that's a pretty minor issue, overall, I think.  Just spam missile frigates if you see an incoming wave of Mirrors.  Or, just sit and laugh as the piddly damage that Mirrors do fails to do anything about the forcefields over your command station.

Wasn't complaining that they're immune to melee attacks. I was pointing out that their description text still says that they're very vulnerable to melee attacks, and that it should probably be changed. I know how to kill them :P

Are you playing on 24/7 dustbowl/goldrush/badwater n00b servers where the enemy team are limited to 0 soldiers, heavies, demomen & medics or something?
