Zenith caches, other caches ?
« on: April 26, 2013, 02:28:03 pm »
I like them, but I feel they are too restrictive in term of given ships. How about:
- bomber cache (giving a number of bombers, zenith bombers, chameleons...)
- cloaker cache (giving a assortiment of ships with cloaked capabilities)
- missile cache (do I really have to explain further ?).
- beamer cache (could give 3-4 beamer starship), but once, also put other kind of starships...
- frozen enclave (freeing the enclave would have one and only one enclave join your forces as an ally).

Basically you could tie any ship to this.

AFAICT, the reason Ship Reserves are all Zenith Ship Reserves is because one of the Zenith's Shticks is that they're old.

Now, I could still see variations on the Zenith Ship Reserve that specialize in a role (e.g., a "Zenith Bomber Reserve" might have a mix of Siege Engines, Electric Bombers, Chameleons, and Bombards)

Well, there's nothing stopping dormant human reserves of ships being sort of left about in space or captured by the AI. Might be a bit odd for spire ships or something though. It's an okay idea.

Ooh! What if when you captured a planet you might find, "salvageable wrecks," of ships?

Like, there'd be a cluster of them just sitting there, but until you popped the CS, you didn't even notice!

...that or there's an old reserve of ships in an abandoned hangar that you can pop or capture and get the ships. Or, the AI stored them in their own command station to keep them away from human command. I actually get way too excited to see Zenith reserves, just because it's like cracking open a chocolate and getting delicious mint or coconut in it. It's kinda like those distribution nodes, but I'm not so great at keeping my money spent so those end up useless to me. I'm not against getting more variety of things to crack open for shiny presents.

And while I sense just a teeeeeensy bit of sarcasm in your post, there are games like Heroquest where you literally can't look down and spot holes and ice and stuff when a monster is nearby. "Searching for traps" means finding touch plates that stand out and finding slippery patches of ice that you could tell just by looking at them. You just... well... never notice them until the monsters are gone. My friends and I joke about that mechanic all the time on our sessions.

Or just wrecks which the AI did not deem useful to salvage for (whatever) reasons, which need to be rebuild much like golems do. Except it's a cache of ships.

Since humans are on the brink of extinction and are no longer a threat the AIs moved most of it's stuff to another galaxy to fight Spire (right?). So there could be abandoned/shutdown AI factories, facilities and/or reserves similar to Zenith Reserves. These could be destroyed to capture AIs' bonus ships and/or knowledge or other technology.

You mean like Advanced Factories and Fabricators, except you want to blow them up?

Well I guess something like Advanced Factories or Fabricators could work too but I meant stuff similar to Zenith Reserves. You destroy it and you get ships. You know when the AIP increases the AIs unlock more ships. As the game goes on the AIs unlock new ship types aka "bonus ships". So Destroying the "AI Reserves" or whatever would give a couple of hundreds of those ships. They could be Mark III or higher since they're just normal ships. Well Zenith ships are ships too but they're powerful and more unique.
