On another note, my favorite method of playing recently has been massing parasites, and attack really really hard planets and massing as big a force as possible using enemy ships that I have turned and repaired with my engineers, it's interesting to play like that, but tough to actually win. Keep up the great work!

You're in good company with that technique. ;)  Admiral and a few others also really like doing things along those lines.  Glad you're having a good time, and don't let me scare you off of making other suggestions or anything!

::Raises hand:: Parasites and Mobile Repair Stations are my combo of choice.

Alright, glad to see that you aren't bothered or anything, haha. It sure does seem like you have your hands full, which to me is a good thing, because that means more stuff for us.

And just how many coders are there? If it's you alone, I'll give you an internet cookie, otherwise no soup, err cookie, for you.

A note on xfire - now we have support (or almost :) ) it is a great marketting tool. If you have xfire, fire it up when you play. Currently 8 users in the AI War base are playing it, the more that play it the further up the board it will go and tempt others to play it

http://www.xfire.com/games/aiwar/AI_War/

Also post screenshots and videos that you think maybe of interest - that way xfire users who click the game in xfire to see what is going on can have a browse at the videos posted.

For those that didn't see the post. Currently xfire support shows that the game is playing when you play it, if you want to be able to post screenshots (scroll lock s), video (scroll lock v) or broadcast games on internet tv (scroll lock b) then you need to uncomment a couple of lines

Browse to the xfire directory - probably C:\Program Files\Xfire

Edit the xfire_games.ini and within that search for 5919

Take out the two comments at the bottom (;'s) by deleting the ;'s

so
[5919]
LongName=AI War
ShortName=aiwar
LauncherDirDefault=C:\Program Files\Arcen Games, LLC\AI War
LauncherExe=AIWar.exe
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
;InGameRenderer=D3D9
;InGameFlags=USE_PRESENT|ENABLE_MOUSE|BLOCK_ASYNC|DISABLE_RELEASE

to

[5919]
LongName=AI War
ShortName=aiwar
LauncherDirDefault=C:\Program Files\Arcen Games, LLC\AI War
LauncherExe=AIWar.exe
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
InGameRenderer=D3D9
InGameFlags=USE_PRESENT|ENABLE_MOUSE|BLOCK_ASYNC|DISABLE_RELEASE

Note xfire will send updates out at the moment which may put them in - you'll know if they are out as it will tell you xfire is enabled when you start ai war

And that's it - the game works very well in xfire.

Created an AI War group on xfire as well. Should make it easier to communicate and get games setup as you don't have to add every new player that comes along to your list. It's currently open to the public, so just search for it under communities and join up.

Good call - I would suggest you post the info in http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/board,4.0.html as well

Ah, classic Seinfeld. :)  It's just me on coding.  We've got Phil on art and Pablo on music and Calvin and Lars helping out here in the forums and with design advice (and the manual/ key charts in the case of Calvin), and that's it!

That's what it said on your About Us page, but I couldn't believe it. Well congratulations to you and your team for a fine product. I got a buddy or two trying out the demo already. Unfortunately they are not RTS players, nor PC games. :-\

Thanks!  Well, a number of non-RTS players have been getting into AI War to my surprise, so I guess you never know, haha.

Xfire updated last night and in the release notes it showed they were not supporting AI War. Presumably using the startup location etc. But it's now broke :( Which is refelected by the sudden drop in players

I can't see anything wrong with the ini file

[5919]
LongName=AI War
ShortName=aiwar
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/ArcenGames/AIWAr/LastRunLocation
LauncherExe=AIWar.exe
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
InGameRenderer=D3D9
InGameFlags=USE_PRESENT|ENABLE_MOUSE|BLOCK_ASYNC|DISABLE_RELEASE|DISABLE_FOR_VISTA

Any other thoughts? Or chris do you need to ask Xfire?

LauncherDirKey=HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/ArcenGames/AIWAr/LastRunLocation

This line looks like a typo to me, but I'm not sure.  If this is case sensitive, it should be

LauncherDirKey=HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/ArcenGames/AIWar/LastRunLocation

See if that works for you, I'm surprised they did not test that better (or maybe it is only broken on some OS versions).

No that didn't work :(

I copied from the exported reg

LauncherDirKey=HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ArcenGames\AIWar\LastRunLocation

Still doesn't show :(

What is your OS?  It looks like they are disabling it for Vista, but I don't really know their stuff.

Xp SP 2 - it was working before their last update so could be worth you just sending your xfire contact a message to see if they are aware they have broken it.

I used manual detection to point to my install folder, works great. I usually have to do manual detection, as I do not like my games under /Program Files (x86)/<developer or publisher>/<game>. I have all my games install to /Program Files (x86)/<game>
