Okay, I've made some updates to how the lobby renders -- can someone check and see if this solves the XFire problems?  I am hoping that it will.  The registry key is not yet in place, but that part is easy.  Hopefully we can get full XFire support with these two changes; that would be pretty sweet.

The lobby changes have resolved the second launch issues. Nice work! :)

Hooray!  After the official 1.201 release later today, I'll send them a note and see if they can update the official support for the game.

Yep and it appears to no longer crash as before so it looks like the side effect is it's cleared the other bug

Hooray!  Apparently XFire just really does not like having multiple Direct3D9 Devices in one application.  Good to know!

Interestingly the video aspect still doesn't work for the start of the game - not a deal breaker but worth knowing

Also not sure I like your new icons at the bottom of the screen :(

What do you mean by the start of the game?  Are you referring to the title screen and lobby?  Those are GDI+ elements that won't ever be supported by applications like XFire which record DirectX output only, unfortunately.   XFire would just record the starscape behind the windows, but not the windows themselves.  That's also true for the scores popup window, and the in-game menu and all of those related menus.  That's an unavoidable fact of this being a mixed GDI+/DirectX cyborg.

Also not sure I like your new icons at the bottom of the screen :(

Wow, I'm really surprised.  What's not to like?  They are essentially the same as before, except much higher quality visually.  What's the problem with them?

I think it's the change which occurred whilst I was away for the weekend. I think I liked the less blocky approach but the detail is better on the new one. Could just me getting used to it.

New

Old

Gotcha.  Well, bear in mind that the HUD in general is not nearly done.  We're going to make it a bit more unified visually like a traditional RTS HUD, and that will hopefully alleviate your concerns.  For now I think it's an improvement in general quality, and we'll see where it goes from here -- Phil's only been at the HUD for around a day so far. :)

I like the new direction for the HUD, it adds a ton to the polish of the game. Next up, custom cursors.

I don't know that that's the next item on the list, but there's definitely lots more to go with the HUD.  Glad you're liking the updates!

Lol yeah, I didn't think so, I was just using the expression (if I'm to understand it correctly:) First I conquer Google (for example), then the world! That sort of thing.

Don't feel bad about telling me to take it easy once in a while either. I'm young still, I can take the punishment ;D

No worries -- I appreciate all suggestions, just not ones that are really speculative.  As in, imagine that you are paying for each one, and the currency is my time.  There is only so much, so which features do we spend this currency on?  To a large degree that is my job to determine, but it helps if people properly weight their suggestions when they ask for them ("I really want/need this," or "This is a nice-to-have that I would really use, but it's not critical," or "I just thought of this, it might be neat.")

That last category I am far less interested in in general, except as regarding new ship ideas and other content-type ideas for expansions/DLC.  Mainly just because I already have so many suggestions in the first two categories, enough to last me through the end of the year at least, and the list just keeps growing.  This is in itself not a bad thing, but if the trend continues it means that some stuff just won't ever get done, or won't get done at all within a short time period, so it's important to me to know what sort of priority each idea really has.

Right now I feel a little bit like a guy trying to drink from a fire hydrant with the volume of (mostly very good) suggestions coming in in general. :)

Alright sounds good.

On another note, my favorite method of playing recently has been massing parasites, and attack really really hard planets and massing as big a force as possible using enemy ships that I have turned and repaired with my engineers, it's interesting to play like that, but tough to actually win. Keep up the great work!

You're in good company with that technique. ;)  Admiral and a few others also really like doing things along those lines.  Glad you're having a good time, and don't let me scare you off of making other suggestions or anything!
