Wiki updates for new expansion pack
« on: August 22, 2012, 02:56:37 pm »
Alright.

I'm not even trying to keep the wiki up to date at the moment with how fast things are changing.

Having said that, I'm working on setting up the pages for the new expansion and I have decided the navigation needs a revamp.

In the ship nav template I've split the Fallen Spire and Ancient Shadows stuff out into their own sections. I'm thinking the Hybrid Hives could also be split out as they have enough units to make it worthwhile.

Ship Nav template is here.

I'm also thinking the RefNav template needs another section added between the "Enemy AI TYpes and Plots" and the "Minor Factions" section for a "Major Factions" section with links to the top level pages for the Fallen Spire, Ancient Shadows and so on. "Major Factions" sounds wrong though, but other names I think of sound worse.

RefNav template here. (No changes made to it yet.).

As for the ancient shadows section itself, I was thinking a master top level page about the offroad systems (nebulas) and then a page for each type of ship line (human/neinzul/spire/zenith) and a page for each scenario, with the units for that scenario on the same page rather then a separate page for each unit like human controlled units have.

Thoughts?

Avid League player and apparently back from the dead!

If we weren't going for your money, you wouldn't have gotten as much value for it!

Oh, wait... *causation loop detonates*

Dump the data file and open it in excel?  :P

That would be a gigantic page to look at, let alone maintain.

Having said that I can see why it would be useful but I'll have to think on it.

"Faction Plots"?

Alright, it looks like the fleet ship caps will stay constant as you move up a level.

That means all the fleet ship pages have to be re-done.

Anyone else working on the wiki please ignore the fleet ship pages, I'm going to set up a script to do it automatically once the expansion is officially out and we are looking at less frequent changes.

Added the Energy (resource) page.

Energy.

Thoughts? I'd really like a second opinion on how I did the layout.

1. Remove the "Notes about Energy" header. That sort of basic information belongs at the top of the article, while sections are used for greater detail.
2. Matter Converter, not Metal. Similarly, there's a bunch of redlinks because they are the plural form of the article you wanted. Put the singular form in the brackets and add the plural modifier afterwards (ex. Fortresses).
3. I think the information under "Energy Debt" is incorrect. I remember having a brownout at -90k, and it only knocked out my forcefields, grav turrets and tractor beams. The other turrets kept working.

The proper wiki way is to do it thus: Fortresses ;)

(Depending on wiki software, ab and ab could be identical in the output page; Wikipedia works that way)

Matter Converter?

Bleh.

Not on my gaming computer at the moment, will correct.

And yes, I need to parse the links to Fortresses.

I'm probably going to take some of the links out actually, don't need to link to Metal every time I write it.

Removed the first Notes about Energy heading which led to me also pulling out the ToC.

Arcen's using MediaWiki, so they're identical. I just prefer the ab method because it's shorter when editing.

The first time is usually enough ^..^

Oh... I actually copyedited the Energy page last night without having read this thread, and made pretty much exactly the changes suggested.  Sorry if I sniped anyone  :P

Fortresses is slightly preferred syntax on Wikipedia (there are bots and scripts that convert Fortresses to that) just because it keeps the wiki-code more readable, but really, it doesn't matter a jot.
