you guys are making a tower defense game? if the answer happens to be yes, please work faster  >:(
despite wc3 mods and what not, the only decent tower defense game ever made was Defence Grid, and i played it to death

I personally agree with this one, because i'm not a fan of the other game in line for development. Perhaps X should hold a poll after Tidalus is out!

Definitely not taking polls for something like that.  I can't reasonably bump a game that is 70% done for one that is 0% done.  Only reason I did that before was because of some development difficulties with the 70% one, but those are gone now.  It seems like you object to that one because of the zombies -- bear in mind, this is a very E-rated sort of game.  Even Plants Vs Zombies has more gore than this one will, and it didn't have any gore (just zombies falling to bits in a very cartoony way).

The first tower defense game I played was Desktop Tower Defense and it got me really excited about the genre.  Then I found out that it was atypical in that the creeps don't stick to one predefined path; I tried a few others, but without the maze-building aspect I found them dreadfully uninteresting.  What a disappointment!'

The first tower defence i tired was a special map made for StarCraft. Back in the good old days.

It did incoporate maze building tho.

It was actually pretty neat.

As for gemcraft, I agree, it ws nifty.

Yep, we will be!  A Valley Without Wind is currently slated to begin work in early 2011, after our next two games have come out in 2010, plus then also the next AI War game.  The TD game we are planning is pretty ambitious on all fronts, so it got bumped from our second slot in 2010 to 2011 so that we would have time to do it justice.

looking forward to it :) i know you have the skillz
I'm not so worried about a mod for ai war, its probably complex enough already, tower defense.. not so much, unless you plan on spicing it up ai wise

I can picture it now: when you lose in AVWW, a single mkI bomber arrives in orbit and reduces your valley (and several square miles of surrounding countryside) to a molten crater.

I'm not sure I want x4k's AI showing up in a TD game...

Fixed ;)

And, I will note that AI is definitely on the plans for our implementation of tower defense in AVWW, though.  Not quite AI like AI War... but I have some cool ideas for a vaguely-similar rules-bound partially-constrained AI that you both manage your interactions with by your planning as well as needing to react to them as well.

And i've got the tower ideas! :D
Seriously, it's gonna be what i'm looking forward to most as i go through TD games like some people go through socks...

Then i might just try it, i'll have to see...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't custom Starcraft maps basically spawn the Tower Defense genre? I can't remember a TD game before that.

If custom Starcraft maps didn't pioneer the genre, they at least made it mainstream. Those were really fun maps. The Warcraft 3 ones were pretty good too, if not better.

I think they did, its at least the earliest I remember of them.

I always thought it was Warcraft iii maps, but I don't know for sure. I entered it late, with playing some flash games.
