And besides, waves from counterattack posts seem go to any planet you own, so currently it's something you'll have to endure to proceed. It's particularly nasty on a snake map, since it can take many hops for your fleet to intercept a wave that goes to the inner planets.
Chris said on Mantis that he'll look into balancing the counterattack waves though, so hopefully in future they won't be so nasty on large maps.
