What's Your Scariest/ Most Annoying Game Imaginable?
« on: February 09, 2015, 11:22:51 pm »
Is it strange that this game makes me think of more insidious combinations to fight against?

Maybe its just the inner masochist in me, but I would love to see what other nightmares others have dreamt up for this games AI personalities/game settings.

Obviously just saying everything at '10' with two harder personality types is pretty tough...but let's get creative and make the most masochistic or even the most annoying AI to play against.

I'll start!

I'd have to say this game setup would make me rage quit insanely fast - -

1st AI - 10 - Vicious Exotic/ Quadratic with Shark Plot B at 10 ( The CPA nature combined with the very large boost to the waves makes this AI a chain reaction of death in all stages of the game)

2nd AI - 10 - Train  Master/ Backdoor Hacker with Astro Trains at 10 and Preemption at 10 ( Astro Trains are already nightmare fuel at high levels, but this combination brings the fun to your home planet, all the time, really quickly, and with double the pleasure.)

Alright! Let the terrible AI's begin!~~~~

A Grav Driller/Artillerist AI would be pretty nasty, I imagine.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Backdoor Hacker doesn't affect Astro Trains so it doesn't necessarily bring them to your home planet. The exo wormhole only allows the Backdoor Hacker to send waves to your home planet. Only Train Stations affect Astro Trains.

My most feared AI combo is AI 1: One-way Doormaster/Raid Engine. Each planet would have a Blackhole Machine and a Raid Engine. So when you're trying to get rid of that Raid Engine a couple of hops away you get stuck and delayed because of the Blackhole Machines and then the Raid Engine just keeps sending waves. And every time you destroy a Blackhole Machine or a Raid Engine the strength of the Raid Engine waves increases (thanks to the AIP increase).

AI 1: Shadow Master/Grav Driller would most likely be absolutely terrible. Destroying any of those planets would probably be at least half impossible.

AI 1: Speed Racer/Vorpal.. the horror. Eye Bots (and other fun things) moving with a speed of 200 would be just wonderful. Not to mention the stronger CPAs that would also move with a speed of 200.

AI 1: Grav Driller/Reservist or Speed Racer/Reservist would make attacking lot of the planets significantly harder. The AI would use the reserve to defend planets that are normally not reinforced from the reserve and avoiding the reserve ships would impossible unless you decide to use cloaked Warheads.

I suspect Spire Hammer/Backdoor Hacker or Heroic/Backdoor Hacker could get pretty nasty.

And of course there's the classic "is this theoretically winnable?" of having both AIs be Scorched Earth.  But the AI taking its ball and going home isn't as much fun as the AI throwing its ball to smash your face in.

Special Forces Captain/Speed Racer would be similar to the Speed Racer/Reservist mentioned earlier, but potentially scarier in some ways.

The mentioned Speed Racer/Vorpal does indeed sound horrific, particularly if combined with Preemption 10.  On crosshatch.  Starting in the middle.  200 speed Eyebots coming from all directions, all the time ;)  Adding hybrids would be thematic, but probably superfluous.

Maybe. But even without the Special Forces Captain AI type the Special Forces fleet is already so big the player probably can't win it one on one. Even if the player had a huge fleet and won the player would still take significant casualties. Also the Speed Racer AI type alone makes the Special Forces more dangerous indirectly. That's because it makes all AI ships move at the same speed so those slower ships won't get left behind by the faster ships. So the whole Special Forces fleet arrives at once. Normally it's like first come the Fighters, then Bombers and then Missile Frigates and so on.

True, in a lot of ways the SF is like a nasty AI type by default, and doesn't need much help.

AI ships move at the same speed so those slower ships won't get left behind by the faster ships.
On the other hand this makes the SF fleet more vulnerable to Warheads.

Mal: Oh okay, My misunderstanding with that. Still a backdoor hacker combo with astro trains of that scale means that the attacks will most likely be able to one-hit KO you, especially if a forcefield jammer arrives, which it will!

One-way Doormaster/Raid Engine and the Speed Racer/Vorpal would truly be eye-ball piercing pain. The Doormaster/Raid Engine would be particularly tedious as would the Grav Driller/Shadow Master.

Mal: Okay Keith, this ...this right here...fuhhhhhh

Alright...what other technical nightmares can we conjure?

I got one

Vengeful/Special Forces Captain on a Concentric Map with Human Colony Rebellion on 10 and Core Shield Generators- I believe the SFC would throw a lot of the nasty special forces into the exo's from the vengeful? Am I thinking correctly on this sort of combination? That and you are racing against a literal death clock with the Colonies being scattered around. Be a stressful game.

Makes me want to add that lobby option for "disable pause and negative game-speed modifiers" ;)  That'd be one of those combos worth having a high score board for the number of seconds survived.

Shadow Master/Train Master!  That way you can't even see the toy trains coming!   :P

Train Master/Counter Spy, for the illusion of being able to find the toy trains before they arrive.

Speed Racer/Vicious Exotic.

Tech Sledge/Vicious Exotic!  No fancy tricks here, just raw brute force.

Warp Jumper/Technologist Raider.  Best paired up with a different personality for AI 2.

Reservist/Crafty Spire.  Enjoy the stone wall.

Artillerist/Kite Flyer.  Admittedly beatable, but heavy micro required every time you attack something.

Shield Ninny/Peacemaker, because planets need to be as annoying as possible to attack even if they aren't threatening.

Cowardly/Teleporter Turtle!  Want to clear out loose threat?  Nope, sorry, not allowed.  This in particular might be a good candidate for Preemption 10/10...

Having two homeworlds, on opposite sides of a symmetrical map.  That alone can really mess with your head.

I have to admit, Shadow Master/Train Master would be pretty scary. You get a supply jamming train/forcefield jammer with cloaked crap flying at you...geez...

The Cowardly/Teleporter Turtle with Premption 10 would be a very interesting AI to fight against. They would constantly be shoring up for a guaranteed kill it would seem...

And I have to admit, having two homeworlds on opposite sides of the map would be taxing to say the least with an aggressive AI.

Stealth Master Shadow Master/Scorched Earth

We need to expand on this.

AI 1: Shadow Master/Scorched Earth
AI 2: Shadow Master/Raid Engine

Enjoy the dice roll.  The die might be loaded...

Nightmares...
Just AI1: Grav Driller, AI2: Speed Racer made an early newb 5/6 game bad enough back in the pre-salvage, hacking, and still-had-crystal days.
