What just happened?
« on: September 10, 2010, 07:53:19 pm »
Sorry to post another new thread so soon, but, I'm a bit confused...

I was playing a game, I went through and cleared everything out of a planet except for a black hole machine (I figured why destroy it, when I can capture it and save the AIP). After I cleared it out, I left around 200 ships behind, and started to build my new command center. After giving it the command to build, I went to other planets to take care of a few small things. While I was away, I got a note saying that my still being built command center was now destroyed (gone, no message saying that it was being attacked) and a message from the AI saying "Oh, I thought you were dead."

What happened to my Command Center? What does that note from the AI mean?

Help?

Josh

The note from the AI is just a taunt when it destroys one of your command station (it has a few to pick from).  It seems some of their ships slipped through, or something like that.

I love those "LOL, you thought!" moments from the AI. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, the AI pulls something fancy and makes you look silly.  :P

From what I have read, I think your command center was probably destroyed by the black hole machine. They have a long range, heavy hit, and are a great defense for a command center but you don't control it until the command center is complete. What I do in such cases is bring a dozen engineers to insta-build the command center to minimize damages.

I think black hole machines are also reinforcement warp gates, if I recall (it would say in heir abilities text if so). In that case, even if he cmd station is out of range of the black hole machine, it could have spawned a reinforcement batch of ships that then killed the cmd station. If you didn't see ai ships there afterward that probably was not it, but I figured I would mention it -- I always try to bring at least a small guard force for cmd stations that are building. But, the idea of a Ron of engineers is even better.

I would actually suspect cloaked ships.

With him having left about 200 ships behind, anything else would have been stopped. (Assuming the fleet was near the command station on guard.)

I find cloaked ships to be the biggest threat the AI has generally, exactly because of things like this.
