No prerelease version tonight.
« on: June 05, 2009, 04:55:31 pm »
Okay, there's not going to be a DLC prerelease tonight just because I'm running pretty ragged and need some time to myself -- it's been an incredibly, vastly busy week.  A good week, though!  I have around 50 player-requested items sitting on my to-add list for AI War free DLC right now, and they are all great, and hopefully a lot of them will be part of next week's full release (and therefore various prereleases before then).  But great suggestions are still pouring in, so that makes it hard to keep up for the moment.  There will be a lot more features and tweaks coming soon, but probably not everything will make it in time for Tuesday.

At any rate, player response has been better than I could ever have foreseen, on these forums and elsewhere, so I want to thank everyone for that.  Now I gotta go rest. ;)

hehe, I think you've released more patches than some games have done in a their lifespan. I must admit, your game is really stable, I have yet to crash, I mean, I have Space Empires V, and its a goldangmess EVEN after 73 patches or so.

For what it does, your game is actually working pretty much as intended, the rest now is to add neat stuff, which is up to you. I guess PR is more important for you now tho.

You're doing too good a job really Chris, you must be worn out.. its good that your community is growing and that suggestions are flowing in, but you need to take a break now and then, some of these suggestions can wait I'm sure, but its good to catch them in your "net" so to speak so that after the initial honeymoon period wanes, you'll hopefully settle down a bit, and have a solid community, who play and appreciate your game, and they stick around for the future..

Even one man armies like Vice from Evochron Legends would only be releasing new test builds every few weeks, based on some of the suggestions, and a lot of them had a lot of chewing the fat before they made it into the game. You've excelled yourself, I don't know any other dev who is plugged in to so many community sites and answers all questions, as well as take and collate peoples ideas and implements them in a matter of days. Very impressive Sir. Kudos to you.

Nice to see you get more exposure too, on Co-optimus.

For most of us here, I think we're stunned at the level of support you're giving, and I'm sure many of us will be here for your other projects in the future because of your "close to your community" attitude. keep up the good work fella, but we don't want you all burnt out :)

Thanks for the kind words, all of you -- and no worries, Keith, you weren't wearing me out. :)

Right now is most likely to be the busiest period, that's for sure, since there's so much exposure happening all at once and just trying to manage and aggregate all the feedback, and respond to people with questions, is a challenge.  There's no question that things will have to slow down over time to a more comfortable pace, but at this point I'm planning on doing the weekly DLC until the start of July at least, and then maybe go biweekly after that for a while, instead of monthly.  And prereleases would still be more frequent, but probably every 3-4 days instead of daily.

Don't worry, I don't have any illusions about my ability to keep up this pace for the long haul.  Just trying to get off on the right foot to start out with, and then things will cool down in general as the community grows and there is more public info out there for the game, more of players discussing strategy with one another, etc.  That network is growing, like you say!

And really, it's very much appreciated that my efforts are noticed and appreciated in return.  Who knew I'd have such an awesome, if small, player community so quickly!
