Way too freaking fast
« on: October 21, 2010, 07:06:05 pm »
Everything in the game is incredibly fast, almost too fast for me to see what's happening. The enemy on one planet literally wiped out fifty space planes in the blink of the AI Eye that was there... Please don't kill me for the pun.

Can the game be a tad slowed down, or is it just me who has this issue with the game?

Simply use Epic/4X combat style, if you want.  Also, if you want slow-mo during combat, you can just hit the minus key a time or two.

what the heck is Epic/4x supposed to mean anyway? It sounds as if its 4x normal speed, but its really slower. perhaps you should make that clearer?

It says in the tooltip.  But, 4X is a genre of strategy game.  Civilization, Galactic Empires, etc.

Also try running on a lower performance profile. I've noticed that Insane is WAY too fast for me to react on, unless I run epic settings.

The actual speed things happen is identical between the performance profiles.

Are you sure? Because it feels way too fast, compared to Normal. I'm usually not the one to make rampant claims not based on facts *COUGH*

But I did some testing to back up my claims, and saw my claims crumble to dust. It is actually the same speed. My bad!

No worries.  You may be remembering earlier betas, when it actually was (incorrectly) faster or slower.  So you're not crazy!

Honestly, I also thought AI Unity was _way_ more rapid of a game than in comparison to AI SlimDX; rather, you are now more heavily penalized for mistakes because of the decreased ship caps (which in consequence equates to less fleet mobility/adjustment, and perhaps one may not see that they are suffering major losses in illusion of the decreased caps), and generally how the game feels as of this moment, but I can't say for certain, though.
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

and so this question arises: why the change from normal to 4x, and from fast to normal?

Epic: Ship movements x0.5, firepower x0.5
Normal: Well..normal
Fast: 2x Movement, 2x Firepower

He meant that we renamed the old normal to "4X," I think.

I can see how "Epic/4X ship combat" can be confusing to new ppl.
I totally understand the logic behind calling it Epic/4X from the 4x genre of games, though most 4x games have fairly normal paced combat, Civ, Galciv2, X3:TC, granted some of them are turn based, but the combat itself is over rather quickly.
Simply calling it "Epic (slower)" might help. But again, its a friggin name of a friggin button, the tooltip should be enough to clear it up :P
