Wave to ???
« on: December 27, 2010, 12:31:10 pm »
I dont know if this has been part of the update.
It basicly is what happens if you normally have no warpgates adjacent to your planets that waves may appear as "x [shiptype] attacking [???] in ...".
The same seems to be rather commen in my current game, though I have several warpgates adjacent to my planets. The thing that seems to be consitent is that they always appear at very very very short notice (30-50sec) and seems to always come from a gate(normal gate) that in a planet that is adjacent to me, so far always the one I am attacking when the wave gets called.

These attackers are a bit smarter though, as long as I have any force in the adjacent planet they do not attack, when I remove my fleet they attack the second after(so dont keep you fleet waiting for them :)).

Feature, bug ?

Sounds like a Raid Engine.

This happens when you enable cross-planet attack mode.  The waves do not "target" a specific planet, they simply arrive on an AI planet near yours, and, as you said, choose the most effective path.  It's much more realistic, you have to be prepared on all fronts, instead of just moving all your forces to one planet for a small duration.

Did you happen to enable cross-planet attack?

No, its is off. Iirc I only have the traders and restistance enabled.

Sounds like a Raid Engine.

Havent yet scouted the planets behind the one I was attacking (was somewhat neutering it).
Will have a looksee and find out if there is something there, havent ever encountered one of those I guess ...

I've had this happen when the AI mounts a wave against a planet I had, but lost control of before the wave hit.

this happens alot when AI difficulty 9+ (+possible others) it so AI can be pretty nasty as they get waves of 300 ships normally they appear at planet but they sit there until they out number you. what difficulty?
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.

Yeah, that's almost certainly a raid engine in one of those unscouted adjacent systems.

I think this is the most likely culprit. Raid engine sends FREQUENT waves to adjacent systems if conditions are met, and they're easy to meet (I think 'considerable player fleet, is enough).

I've had these at least twice in my games because of an unscouted system.

Teaches you to scout I guess;)

Working backwards ...

@hullu
I usually scout very thouroughly, kinda failed to do so this time as things where a bit harder to get going .. ahem :)
Still need to unlock mk3 scouts or finish setting up my initial terf, I was aiming at the last but seem to need to do some scouting first.

@soMe_RandoM
Iirc 7.3, could be 7.6. A Bully and an Assassin. I just get punished too hard in this game to "try" any harder without things at times becoming somewhat frustrating, which I like but does require some care to not overestimate ones self  ::)

@Echo35
I do not lose planets  8)
(Havent yet in this game.)

Just to have it said explicitly, I hope this is a feature, even if it isnt intended I do like it. When you think you finally have the power to clear a planet you get a pop-up telling you about "[~size of own fleet] number of enemies incoming" and 20s later they are there forcing you to make some hard calls. :)
