Why are Hunter/Killers so small?

Every time I play a fallen spire game, I inevitably run into a couple of hunter/killers in the late game.  But why are they so small?  They're the same size as a fleet ship, despite being being one of the most dangerous ships in the game.  Shouldn't they at least be the size of other large AI ships, like spirecraft or dire guardians?

I thought that being small would be extra freaky, frankly.

Starship sizes are equally confusing if you try think of it as bigger = stronger. The sizes in this game are more about the theme.

Does the OMD target them? I think so. Anyway, AIW2 will need a clear small/big (/giant) distinction between ships to simplify a bunch of rules (insta-kill immunity, swallowing/disassembling, etc).

The icon turning as the ship or not is equally disturbing. It seems that all and only big and bigger things do (starships, guardians, golems, etc) but the ZSiege Engine does despite being a fleetship and the Spirecraft Siege Tower and Hunter/Killer don't. That's the kind of things I hope AIW2 will streamline.
