Question regarding Backup Servers
« on: November 26, 2013, 07:44:28 am »
I've noticed that when I destroy a command station with a backup server, the backup server reappears elsewhere in the universe.  It can even reappear in a system with another backup server if there aren't enough command stations out there without them.

My question is, if I corrupted/downloaded the design earlier from this AI's backup server, are the new ones supposed to be locked down as well?  I think it is intended that it is, but I'm going to check regardless and let you know what I find out.  It would seem strange if you could corrupt the design for both AIs, destroy one command station, then download the design for yourself.

Either way, I'm enjoying the fact that I'm the only one in the galaxy with 4 full caps of bombards, thanks to the fact that I stole all of them right before my final hack :D

I would imagine the servers only respawn if you don't hack them. I think other backups of the same ai player will self-destruct.
Life is short. Have fun.

Well, in this case, the backups respawned after I hacked them.  The question is do they remember being hacked the first time I guess.  I'll check next time I play the game.  If the hacking station starts a timer then I guess it's a no and should be fixed.

I had the opportunity to test this in my game, and sure enough you can both download AND corrupt the same ship for the same AI player, if it happens in different systems.
I DL'd Electric Bombers, killed the Command Station, and the Backup Server kindly respawned in an adjacent, pre-neutered system.  I went ahead and hacked it again to corrupt, and it worked.  The timer ticked, the response responded, and at the end, the AI no longer created any more Electric Bombers.

Neat trick, but probably not intended.
