What?

Goes off to read page at http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Core_Shield_Generator

Umm, the page I linked is the only page for Core Shield Generators I have created and I don't see anything like what you are describing.

Is there another page on the wiki that has been created in the past I am missing?

I think what is being suggested is that they CSG's acquire a new section - something along the lines of:

Purpose:

Core Generators serve the purpose of insuring that players capture a minimum number of planets before attempting to take a homeworld.  Because the A generators are always located on planets with Advanced Reseach Stations and B generators are located on planets with Advanced Factories, it helps orient players toward capturing strategic assets.  These assets dramatically improve the chances of success against the AI homeworlds.

This is the page I am thinking of: http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Prerequisites_to_Winning
specifically its section on core shield generators

There was also a hanging link on the main page for requirements for winning, so I went ahead and filled that in too.  I'm sure it'll get massaged into a better form eventually:
http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Prerequisites_to_Winning

I'm not picking on Wanderer here, he stated himself that the page may need some "massaging".

Yea, something like that should be added to the main CSG page, and IMO, a brief mention of this additional design purpose on the Preqs for winning page as well.
This way it there is a clear purpose for these things besides a seemingly arbitrary roadblock.

Oh, yes.

All the game options/minor factions/ai options/etc. are going to get their own, more detailed pages once I finish off the ships and am able to start working on the rest of the reference section so yes, the Core Shield Generators will get a detail of their own as part of that. Not sure when I'll get to those pages but it's planned.

Alright.

All ship and structure specific pages are done.

Just as a double check can some people check against a bonus ship type they have in their game please?

I want to make sure my template code did not screw up half way through.

Thanks.

Heh, unfortunately my understanding of thier implementation was just what I wrote.  It's easy enough to make it prettier.  And no, constructive criticism that isn't "Dude, that sux." isn't picking on me, it's welcome. :)

I also apparently wasn't obvious enough that you can turn them off very easily if they're a problem for your preference in playstyles.

Edit: I've modified the tone of that passage heavily.  Thanks for letting me know it was coming off as a whiny rant. :)

Dazio... don't know if anyones mentioned this to you yet but HOLY MOTHER OF MOSES... that's a TON of pages and work you've put in.  Eventually I'll need to have you teach me how templates work, my wiki-fu is fail.  errr, I'm meandering a topic again.

DUDE, AWESOME WORK!  Thanks!

Hmmm... the AOE ship-types are most likely to screw up somewhere. The Zenith Auto Bomb, in the in-game description does 16,000 x 10 hits, which is not reflected in the wiki (16,000 x1). This needs clarification: does it hit up to 10 targets, rather than have a specific AOE?

I've had a brief stroll over the experimnetal ship usages. I think I got the military ones done.

Erg, I missed that. However, the 16.000 x1 is correct for how I've been doing it as there is in fact only 1 shot, not multiple shots, it's just an AOE. I've been adding the number of ships that the AOE hits to the Description text at the top. I thought about doing "16,000 (AOE +9)" in the damage area but there are so many types of AOE I felt I needed the room to describe the AOE types which would not fit in the table.

edit: Will update as soon as I get home and can look at the data files.

Thank you! :)

However, the template I used to create the ship pages is this ugly kludge I threw together in Microsoft Access based off the data files and now that the pages are created I never intend to use it again.

If you are talking about the wiki template feature such as the Ship Navigation matrix at the bottom of the ship detail pages, click the 'Powered by Mediawiki' image in the very bottom right of a wiki page to go to the wiki site, it has a great set of help pages which are what I used to get started.

Now for the rest of the wiki.....

In my opinion, the ship-descriptions at the top should ideally be left to the developers and Mantis so that your script can port any changes without overwriting manual work. We could Mantis whatever changes are necessary so as to keep the transfer as sane as possible.

The different AOE-types could do with its own article under ammunition types and ship immunities.

I'm also going to suggest that the easier/medium/harder AI types link to the same article split into three sections. We're probably going to put what they spawn in there, or if we can export this from the game data some sort of conversion.

EDIT: There's an skeleton of an AI Type page at http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_AI_Opponent_Types.

Not happening unfortunately, the ship descriptions were imported as Memo fields and my kludged together code stopped running every time I hit that so the ship descriptions were all manually copy-pasted. And then there's all the manual tweaks I did to pretty much every page.

Ya, I'm not using that template code again, easier to just update manually for any future changes.

Agreed to both of those, I think the links on the AI difficulty go to different pages at the moment but that is easily fixable.

I'll port the old AI descriptions into the referenced page so that it gets reorganized into the new version.

Many, many thanks for all the work :)  In the past the wiki has largely served the purpose, but folks looking for a thorough reference work would have been rather disappointed.  No longer :)

Well, at the start I was thinking "Hey, Wikipedia has this cool Navigation box formatting. Let's try to bring that into AI-War!"

And then I started reading Template:Navbox and Template:Navbar...

Not like Python's import soul at all. No...

= = = =
Are the AI type-specific WaveMultiplier and ReinforcementMultiplier values from http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Why_Do_Enemy_Waves_Get_So_Large%3F still up-to-date? Are you guys thinking about changing it over the next couple of versions?

= = = =

I'd like to solicit opinions on how people would like  table formatting to look like.

The should be some sort of default formatting so we don't have to type out all of the styles to make it look better organised. also, black on white screws up my eyes a lot.

Interesting.

It looks like you dug deeper into how tables work then I did.

Having said that and having checked them on both my home and work computer, I find the text size on the first two tables to be a little to small to read easily. (AI Types and the Ships and Structures page).

Beyond that, I like the color scheme of the Ships and Structures page better.

As I don't know how (and don't have the time to learn at the moment) how to change the background color for the entire wiki, we are stuck with the white background and that's the table that looks the best to me with that limitation in place.
