Updates on Steam?
« on: October 28, 2009, 09:45:06 am »
After reading the forums here, and having posted a minor bug, I was wondering about the update schedule when you have purchased the game through Steam.

It seems that x4000 is pretty active fixing bugs and updating the game in general, but, I am a little vary having purchased on Steam, because as far as I know, a developer can not just patch the game once a week (I seem to remember having read something about 1 or 2 "free" updates, and then you have to pay afterwards.

Could someone shed a little light on this? Is it possible to update the Steam game with a downloadable patch, without having Steam reverting to an older version when starting the game?

I can't say for sure, but I'd be surprised if that didn't work - it definitely does with the Impulse-deployed install I'm using.

Correct, Steam only allows developers a certain number of updates per month. However, the "Check for Updates" button in the Steam Install does work, so its entirely possible X will circumvent Steam entirely.

But, i'm wondering if Steam does an integrity check, and detects a "malformed" version if you do this?  Or, if it will then update and overwrite in the future, when a larger update is pushed onto Steam.
