Unseen enemy ships or incorrect message?
« on: January 16, 2011, 07:40:38 pm »
I've been playing the campaign tutorial. I recently cleared out Jelyjo and built a command post. However, now there is message that says there are 133 enemy ships there. I don't see them, and nothing is under attack. On my planet of Uzphi, it says there are 50 enemy ships; again, I can't see them. I understand that ships can be cloaked, but it seems odd that they would just "hang out" at my planets. Could it be enemy scouts (seems like a high number though)? I did upgrade the game a few times while playing this savegame, so I wonder if it just got confused?

Thanks

What version of the game are you playing on?  If it's not the latest beta, then there might be a bug with the cloaked ships just hanging out there; that was fixed a little while back.

Additionally, you might try looking at the intel summary for that planet on the galaxy map, to see if it notes that cloaked ships are there.

Hope that helps -- and welcome to the forums!

I checked the galaxy map - they are indeed cloaked ships. I didn't know that information was on there, thanks. I am enjoying the game so far but it can be somewhat overwhelming sometimes.

I'm currently using 4.067 but this game was started with a much earlier version (I think 4.02? .. uh.. whatever the current Steam version is). I guess it's possible that the issue with cloaked ships was in whatever version that this game was started with and persisted across saves?

It might not be a bad idea for me to restart this game anyway - I've learned so much that the first parts might click better now.

The cloaked ships should show up on the planetary summary sidebar, too, but haven't been since the port to Unity (version 4.0).  That's something I really need to get back in the game again.

Glad you're enjoying it -- and yes, it's definitely a big game!  It might be that those ships are actually at a stealth guard post, in which case they are actually working as intended.  You can always use a tachyon drone or decloaker (SUP menu), or a tachyon warhead (missile silo) if you really want to find those ships.

If they are just hanging out randomly, do be sure to open a mantis issue, but it shouldn't be any sort of bad hangover from an older version of the game or anything.  Doesn't mean it isn't, but it shouldn't be!

Could there really be another guard post? I thought you had to defeat all the guard posts before you could destroy the AI command post and build your own. I control both of these planets.

I'll try building a decloaking unit and see what I find.

You can kill the command station at any time on most ai planets.

Hmm. I don't know how I got the notion that I needed to beat all the guard posts first. Good to know.

I built a decloaker and so far have found two clusters of cloaked ships. They were apparently just hanging around. As soon as they were revealed, they attacked. I didn't see a guard post with either cluster. I haven't found all the ships yet, though. Do you think this is an issue I should report? I have a save game from before I revealed the ships.

Sure, feel free to report it with the original save.  It doesn't sound like a hugely major thing, but it might need looking at.  Thanks!

Perhaps you encountered some of the guard posts that *do* require destruction before the command post can be targeted. The command station shield post (or something to that effect) and the warp counter attack guard posts must be destroyed before the AI command station can be targeted.

This should show a force field like bubble around it (I think?) along with a message on mouseover indicating that something is providing invincibility, and how many times over if there are multiple things doing so.
