Ok, direct defiance means bye-bye :)

If you find later that you wish to rejoin this community under your current username (or otherwise wish to discuss something), please drop me an email at [email protected] , and I'll be happy to try to work something out.

Or, as you alluded to earlier, you can probably circumvent any attempts on our part to identify your creating a separate account and come back whenever you please.  Your doing so won't really offend me.  But if you want us to not catch on to who it is, you probably should avoid using the f-word on your alternate account ;)

For the rest of you, I would greatly prefer it if you didn't discuss this publicly any further as Shrugging Khan is no longer able to respond.  He hasn't done anything to warrant a public dogpiling, etc.

If any of you want to further discuss the strange appearance of your units in a remote part of the galaxy (the original topic, believe it or not), feel free to do so in another thread.  I'm locking this one.

I didn't encounter this until today, and Shrugging Khan is now un-banned.  Generally for something like this we only ban for a day, unless there's a repeat offense, so that's what wound up happening here.

In terms of the profanity thing, let's not be crazy about this.  I very much understand the dislike of "hyper political correctness," but that's not what is going on here -- that sort of thing drives me nuts, too.  We ask people not to swear profusely for two reasons:

1. It bothers some people, and we don't want to be exclusionary to them.  We have many people who are younger or older than the "general gamer," and we want this to be a safe place for everyone.  We ask that everyone speak like adults in a semi-professional setting.

2. When there's profuse and intense swearing, that often trends into other forms of verbal jibing, which is something we're really trying to avoid here as well.  Not that there was profuse profanity here, or that there was any harassment of any other player -- the initial swearing was quite harmless, and something I might have said myself outside of these forums.  But broken window syndrome is quite well known, so we don't make exceptions -- if somebody complains about language, we ask the original poster to change it.  If someone is being made uncomfortable by someone else's language, that's an easy fix, no?

If you're feeling oppressed, please take it out somewhere else.  My own language is censored as much as anyone else's here.  In high school and college, I fell into the typical speech patterns that you see in most PG-13 or R movies that have cautions for language.  It's trendy, it's often funny, it's not malicious.

But it does bother some people, and it's not exactly in keeping with the welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere we wish to cultivate here.  So, as I censor myself around children, at work with other professionals, and on these forums, I ask that others censor themselves at least here.  Automated filtering tools make my laugh, for a lot of reasons.

This is my house, so to speak -- please do me the courtesy of not offending the sensibilities of my other guests here.  In terms of the actual subject of this thread... I'm not sure what's going on.  If you have a way to reproduce at all, we'd be very interested, as usual.  As always, thanks to everyone here for looking out for the game, the community, and so on.  Sometimes we differ on how we best feel like that should be accomplished, as I suppose is the best way to characterize what happened here, but let's not let that spiral out of control.

The perma-ban was way too harsh, but the direct defiance of our community guidelines wasn't exactly appreciated, either.  Call it even? ;)

There ought to be a save game attached to my OP, but I haven't spotted that kind of behaviour since.

Fair enough -- I just don't know why that fighter is all the way out there.  It's kind of down to repetition to really be able to tell.  One wild idea:

1. A parasite of yours partially damages an enemy fighter.
2. A military command station translocates it way the heck out into the middle of nowhere.
3. A sniper kills the fighter out in the middle of nowhere.
4. It becomes yours.

Something like that could happen and could be absolutely valid.  I'm not saying that's what happened here, but I just don't know -- there are probably some other sequences that could lead to that, too.  Maybe an etherjet of the enemy that had your thing tractored and then got translocated.  Or... something.

More likely, it's a bug, but all that save has is the aftermath, not the cause.  If it's that rare it's reassuring that it's not too big a deal, but at the same time that makes it way harder for us to fix.  If anyone ever notices a suspected cause, we can start to narrow in on it, of course.

In the meantime -- thanks for letting us know. :)

Wait, I just had an idea.  I noticed this "a lot" in my game when I had a basically undefended system next to my homeworld (all it had was a mark 3 Military station and a bunch of turrets to act as a "shield") and I noticed some enemy ships suddenly appearing on my homeworld in the oddest of places.  The only thing I can think of is when these waves headed for my homeworld's wormhole and went through, they were being shot by the translocation shot from the command station.  If I remember a while back, you made turrets hit a target as soon as it went through another wormhole to stop deep-raiding.  It may be a case of the translocation shot firing, but instead of the ship staying in the system, it went through and then got translocated.

I'm only guessing though, and I have no save game to really give you this showing up, but its a vague-yet-possible idea.  If I notice it again, I'll have a save game for you.

Huh, translocation taking effect after going through the wormhole... I don't _think_ that could happen, but it might just be possible ;)

The funny thing would be to have it intentionally teleport the unit to some random planet.  In general, going through a wormhole sounds like a bad idea.  Going through a wormhole while subject to forces that randomly teleport you places... Do the words "transporter accident" mean anything to you? ;D

But yea, depending on the order of operations of the wormhole-traversal-everything-hits-you, that's possible.

By why does it end up about ten jumps away from the nearest friendly object?  ???

Hee hee, transporter accidents....*sighs contentedly*

It'd be great if I was right though ;)

My guess is you piled up some parasite damage on an AI fighter and then it ran away, and later died somehow (minor faction, etc, though stuff killed by minor factions isn't supposed to trigger reclaim at all), and reclaim gave it to you.  That sounds like a stretch, though.
