Two nebulas I can't figure out (save attached)...
« on: September 26, 2012, 09:51:51 pm »
Can anyone manage to beat the nebulas in Barkasichu (might be possible) or Bumoatlo in this game?  I get the IMT for Barkaasichu, and can manage to get the thing down to 30% or so by the time I lose if I play it well.  The second (shattered pillar) seems to be completely impossible.  The suicide ships come in faster than I can handle them, all the friendly bases are losing health rapidly.  The regular enemy fleets are quite dominant.

Help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Against the Citadel Ascendant, ignore their and allied fleets and attack the starbases. Spire ships work best here.

Against the psuedo-devourer: no clue. My first attempt ended in utter disaster.
If warheads can't solve it, use more warheads.

Just going to say Polarizers and Plasma Sieges. RS is an Ultra-Heavy.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Going to echo this for the Citadel Ascendant.

Go straight for the enemy starbase with a spire ship. Pull back after you pop one starbase so your ability points fully recharge your shield ability, then go full attack for the second one. Playing defense simply cannot work, but playing fully offensive can work. Load up on polarizers and plasma cannons if you have them.
Life is short. Have fun.

Against the suicide bombs a drone module works well, the drones attract the suicide bombs and make them explode without hurting anything of value.

Interesting.  Nobody said colony ships were smart.

The problem that I'm seeing here is that apart from the drone module, the RNG has not been kind enough to give me anything that people have suggested for either of these scenarios.  What I have is:

Human and Neinzul, up to Destroyer.
Base weapon types up to mk3 (missile 2)
Shield mk3
Slicer drone mk3
Impulse cannon (unusable) mk1
Photon lance II (unusable) mk1
Doom Accel mk1

Dooms and Missiles on a human DD will help for the RS scenario. You'll want the shield module and another light module to go with it.

I actually got defense to work on the Citadel Ascendant--it was the first time I tried it, so I had no idea what to do.  Basically, I used the Neinzul ship, focused on killing the Colony Ships that went for allied starbases, and used the repair ability whenever the field looked somewhat clear on that side.  Note that worked != ideal.  The scenario took me a very long time to do that way, required more attention than most scenarios, and probably raised my blood pressure a few points.  I did keep all of the Allied starbases alive, though.  I don't know if Nebula difficulty is affected by AI difficulty; I was on 7 at the time.

Again, I do not recommend that approach.  Just saying it has worked before.
My other bonus ship is a TARDIS.
