Tower Defense
« on: October 08, 2012, 09:51:27 pm »
Oh my, I'm silly, but lately I really thought the basics of this game, all the available ships and towers, would make the possibly best endless tower defense game ever.
Kinda snaky map as a setup, Knowledge after each enemy wave, ressources for killing enemies, Towers rebuild after a wave....

No ideas for the next addon? Make the tower defense spinoff and get a whole new set of customers XD

LotS' Defender mode is sort of what you're looking for. It isn't endless, nor do turrets rebuild but if you pick several homeworlds you can have a large variety of units thanks to the several bonus ships and lots of knowledge.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

One curiosity about defender mode.
Does the AI actually have home planets? Could you hypothetically set up such a game where you take the AI's home planets and win that way, rather than by surviving?

I'm not sure if they have homeplanets but you definitely can't win by taking planets.

I'm fairly sure they do, but I sincerely doubt you'll have even a shadow of a chance to reach them :P

You cannot make colony ships, but you can theoretically push out. Each planet is Mk. V though, so essentially they're all home planets although only 2 have the correct guard posts.

Maybe on 1/1 AI you could make some offensive progress, but that's not the win condition.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

I doubt that's something they'd enjoy doing and that's their main goal. If they wanted money I'd guess a Tidalis port to phones would actually work better.

Sure, it was just me being silly.
Maybe I should check out Tidalis anyway. Puzzling is a nice gapfiller.

I really doubt that would be demonstrably better than our other prospects, actually.  Tidalis as-is has really not made much money at all, compared to the other stuff.  The phone market would be better for it, sure, but unless it got some uncommonly good exposure I don't see how it'd break the surface.

Hmm...
Well, I was thinking along the lines of a ten planet defender game where you just take eight planets as your home planets, then blow up the remaining two. No waves can come in if there's nowhere to come from right?

Actually, I just tested it while this post was in transit from my browser to me clicking the post button, and as it turns out... the AI will still try to kill you even when it's dead. Fun stuff. No home command stations, so no victory condition to fulfill.

Poor Tidalis. I love it so much as a puzzle game. So much depth and variety.

I try pushing, especially when it gets a discount on Steam, it but have a hard time beating down the cries of "blahblah match 3 blahblah bejeweled blahbhlah." At least I've succeeded in showing a few people that it's so much more than that. All it usually takes is me going on about it and the demo for long enough. They eventually download the demo just to shut me up. :P
