Tidalis Lite -- Web Player Beta Version!
« on: January 12, 2011, 11:56:19 pm »
Thought this might be of interest to folks, as "do a web player version" has been a suggestion for a long time: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2011/01/tidalis-lite-first-beta-webplayer.html

Anyone who cares to see if they can find any bugs in it is also much appreciated, although it seems remarkably clean for how much gutting that required.  That's basically where I've been for the last two days.  Coming up we're going to be releasing AI War 5.0, LotS, the next official Tidalis version, as well as the official version of Tidalis Lite.

Now Tidalis and Tidalis Lite are basically ready, testing-permitting on Tidalis Lite.  And the AI War stuff is getting darn close, so we're happy about that, too.

We'll see how this affects the visibility of Tidalis, but hopefully it can be distributed far and wide as soon as we work any kinks out of the current beta version (we'll be putting it on other mirrors and content hosts once that happens -- so likely early next week).

I tried this out for about 5 minutes last night, but it was late so I didn't get into it much. I'll try and break it later looking for bugs.  ;) It reminded me how much fun this game is though. I have it on Steam already, but it's been ignored in favor of AI War game time lately. When you do get to the mass release (if it's not already on your list) you might try to get it posted on jayisgames.com. I know I go there pretty regularly to check for new casual games, and this seems right up their alley.

Sweet!  Thanks for that -- I'll definitely look into them, along with the various other places we're planning on already.  If other folks have ideas for places that you think the Lite version would be a fit (that take Unity web player games), the please do let us know!

Knogregate.com takes Unity games, and they share ad revenue.

If Tidalis were on Kongregate... oh man, my productivity would dip even lower than it already is.

Definitely add it to Kongregate. Aside from tip-jar and ad-revenue things, there's currently an Unity3D contest going on, aswell as weekly & monthly contests with prizes to winners.

In Zen mode, you can 'win' by doing nothing for 4 minutes. Not sure if this is intended. Although it is very Zen.

Yea, a pure Zen board can't be lost, really.  Kinda the idea :)

Zen is pretty much there for Score Attacks, as there's no real "Game Over" with that mode.

That makes sense, and is probably what I should have assumed. Maybe if it said something about that when starting zen mode, instead of just 'to win: time runs out'. Because right now there's no given goal except to wait for 4 minutes. I find unless I have some sort of goal in a game that the 'game' part of it is lost to me. But this is more of a philosophical difference than it is any problem with the game itself. My only issue now is that I can't get unity player to work on PCs at work. It might have something to do with having to sneak the connection through a proxy in the first place.  :'( Sad times!

Or buy the game and stick it on a Jump Drive. Not that I'm encouraging you to slack off at work or anything ::)

It's a phone support job with a lot of down time. In general I'm either entirely focused on a call, or I am staring at the ceiling. The IT staff is pretty crafty though, I don't think I could conceivably get a non-web-based game running there without someone coming over to slap me.
