Ticking noise/Teleport
« on: October 04, 2011, 02:22:25 pm »
Hello
I haven't been playing long and have searched google in-order to try and find the answer before posting a question here.

1)What is the ticking noise related to, sounds like a stop-watch ticking. I have not changed the pace of time nor is there an incoming wave. So what is it?

2)Secondly, in the tutorial I had some nice teleport ships, I have played a couple of standard campaigns (did not complete) since then and have not accessed this ship-type. So how do I get it again?

The ticking is a regular ticking?  Not sure what that would be.  There are some sound effects that sound kind of like ticking when you select and deselect ships, though.

Teleporting ships are a complex ship type -- in the lobby, make sure and enable complex ship types to get access to 3/4 of the ships in the game.

I'll rmember to select complex ship-types, thanks.

The sound is like the stop-watch in the intro to the 60 minutes show, it will make a stop-watch sound that is annoying when you are trying to listen to the music.

It is an in-game sound effect, as I closed other programmes to make sure.

No worries on the ship types.

And on the ticking noise -- whoa.  Never heard of anyone getting anything like that before.  It sounds like maybe some sort of key is being held down or something, causing rapid selection of stuff.  I'd look for any ships on the current planet rapidly having their selection change or something to help and try figuring out what it is that's being held down.

I know what the ticking noise is... It's in one of the soundtracks. It has absolutely nothing to do with your progress in the game, it's just part of a soundtrack.

Ohhhhhh... that's right, there is one track that has that sort of ticking in it.  That's just one in the neinzul part of the soundtrack, as I recall.

Ha, that would explain why it's been happening periodically, and I kept thinking it related to gameplay.

Yeah, it's a pretty cool track but I can see why that was confusing. :)

The ticking is a regular ticking?  Not sure what that would be.

AI Engineers in particular can get into some weird movement loops, making a teleport sound at a regular interval. I don't see it so much anymore, but I know for a while they had some weird target-aquisition logic and would frequent two areas back and forth.

Issue solved already. But just sayin!

Ok it is not the music track. It started doing it during my favourite track, so I am through caring. I am not confused or stupid, if you tell me some software that will work with windows 7 to record auido and gameplay I will record it.

Is it something that persists if you save when it's going on, exit to the menu, and reload the save you just made?  If so it might be simpler to upload a save where it's occurring, though I personally don't know the best way of doing that.

Are you using any military command stations currently or dealing with enemy mk 3 engineers?  I agree with the thought that some sort of teleportation could be the cause, but assuming this game was with simple shiptypes I'm not seeing a ton outside mk 3 engineers (would show up as cloaked enemies), military commands stations shooting at things, and maybe translocators from a translocator fabricator that would be resulting in teleporting.

I am determined to make a video. I will look-up software tomorrow and have something soon.

It is just that I want to find-out, not because I feel bad or anything. I just have to hope it will happen again soon. I am sure it is not a music track as it happened during my favourite piano song, so I was pretty annoyed as it was obscuring my fav song this last time.

yeah if you can let us hear the sound you're hearing, we will most likely know what it is. Though I still think it's the soundtrack, since it was in a piano soundtrack you heard it in....

Yeah it was that piano track, I can't believe I didn't hear it for so long and then didn't realise it was part of the track.

I don't want to judge such a great musician, but I think I would like it better without the ticking. It really is a wonderful piece. Makes me think about the sorrow of war, and how mankind is forever trapped in a nightmare fighting his own shadow while surrounded by paradise; as this is how I see the deeper meaning in the game. Sigh...

Just a quick reply to admit my mistake, and explain that there will be no video now. Thanks for the replies.

No worries, and glad to have that figured out at least!
