The Eye Bot.
« on: March 06, 2010, 12:55:37 pm »
Hi.  I have recently started a new game, and decided to go with the eye bot as my unique unit (I wasn't really wanting to, but I liked the planet position and thought I should give them a go).  Well, turns out they're more useful than I expected.  They mow down MLRS turrets in seconds, and provide me with scouting information on their planet (very useful as it just so happens one of my random AIs is the counter-spy spammer).

The reason for this post is mainly because I just hovered over the eye bot mark I and II.  They are different, of course, but they seem to gradually get worse and worse against enemy ships.  Now, I understand that due to their utility they get stronger at a lesser rate than actual offensive ships, but to see Mark I be able to defeat frigates and have 100% remaining, but then mark II to be simply not strong against them at all worries me slightly.

Anybody else use Eye Bots and can perhaps ease my fears a little by saying they still are good at later marks and don't simply die very quickly without doing too much damage?  Or do the other types of ship improve too much for them to be useful (besides as scouts and MLRS turret destroyers) later on?

Thanks,

Philip.

The MK I-IV series of any ship line is not just a progression of power, but actually different kinds of that ship. This keeps the game fresh and keeps old ships from being "outdated".

Even if your eyebot weak vs./strong vs. stats shows lower than expected results, I'm sure it has increased attack and increased speed.

Indeed, it does get an increase in attack etc.  However, that was not what my post was asking for.  I was simply asking if anybody who has played using an Eye Bot and inform me how they perform at later Marks / later in the game, and how they stack up next to other ships (i.e. are they worth upgrading, or should I just go for bombers / frigates).

If you are really into microing and guerrilla tactics, then yes, they are worth upgrading. You will always lose them because they are so fragile, but the cloaking and rapid killing ability means you can pretty much use them to take out any target short of an ion cannon, special forces post, or any other high HP target. Other targets such as command stations, warp gates, and guard posts, fall quickly to a full group of eye bots.
Time to roll out another ball of death.
