How cool would this be...

Basically I thought about how every time I play I have a different amount of friend's online that are willing to play with me.
So terribly we have to start a new game with a different group of people every day almost (or play and disable a few people) and I never really finish a game any more.

So I began to think about how you could fix this problem... and came up with this -

AI War: Universe
Basically have a MMO of AI War that everyone can connect to.

My General Idea was each "Galaxy" is a random Map Seed with a random number of planets.
Each Galaxy (Every game you play now is in one galaxy with 10-120 planets) is connected to other Galaxies. Maybe hitting Tab a second time while in the map view would take you to the Universe View which can look similar to the current view when you hit TAB except each "dot" is a Galaxy instead of a planet.

Of course I can think of all sorts of problems that would have to be fixed so an AI War MMO would work but I would definitely pay monthly to be able to constantly play and compete with everyone worldwide :), slowly collecting and fighting for new ship models and resources and planets. and Cross-Galaxy battles.

And then some noob goes and starts smashing AI Command Stations all over the place and wipes everything out.

 :P

But it does sound like a cool idea, although I highly doubt its feasability.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

If we're talking MMORTS territory, I have reason to believe that it could be done, but the game needs some measure to prevent players from ruining the universe by screwing up galaxies deliberately... and we might also be talking much longer term games, as in taking each planet should be much longer or something. This being in place, of course, to allow you to start a game and watch it progress across multiple days in a persistent universe.
This kind of thing would be an incredibly ambitious idea, and I love that about it. However, it is probably slightly out of scope for an indie developer.

Nah, just have it so if you die you just have to restart.
I wouldn't want there to be "matches" simply each galaxy would have its own AI Progress.

Think of it this way... Lets say each galaxy is run on it's own server. Then when crossing between Galaxies you'd be crossing between servers. (Kind of like Instances in other MMOs, sept we just have 1 galaxy per instance).

Since it would be an MMO it would be a persistant universe, you can "lose" your home base the same way you do now, but you can always start over by building a new home base elsewhere.

The main issue I'm trying to correct is the fact that I have about 20 people I know that play AI War, and every day a different combination of them are online.
If we were all on the same persistent server (A huge MMO where thousands of players are playing in the same Universe) I would be able to play with whoever is online currently.
Of course in an MMO you can't "win" you can only progress towards harder and harder and more advanced AI or Aliens. You wouldn't "level" you'd just have more researched, resources, and own more planets with unlocks.

Since each "Galaxy" has it's own AI Progress if a noob killed a ton of command stations and basically lost the Galaxy for you. Players in Nearby Galaxies could just Doomsday Nuke it then clear it out. (Since a Doomsday Nuke would only kill that 1 galaxy)
Like I said, there are a TON of new things that would have to be created to make a AI War MMO work, but I would totally pay almost any amount of money to play one lol.
