The big, scary one.  No, seriously.  Whatever the largest, most powerful ship in the group is is the one in charge.  Depending on how high the exo-wave strength has scaled up, they can be different things, but an example would be one of the Spirecraft as the lead ship, and then maybe a few weaker starships tagging along, plus a giant swarm of mk4 and mk5 fleet ships.

LOL, the enemy waves usually have a golem or two and a bunch of spire ships, are they all considered lead ships?
Another question (i hate starting new threads), do warp jammers completely keep the enemy from entering the system or what? the tool tip isnt very clear to me.

thanks :)

Not positive, as Assuming I am correct, I would never use them.
Warp jammer makes the planet an invalid target for the AI's warp mechanic (meaning it will go to a different planet, Meaning waves, The ones that warp directly to your wormholes (showing a timer) and counterattack guardpost waves as well. The enemy ships can still directly enter, and therefor does not protect from Exogalactic waves, Raid engine waves, and similar.

Each of their own sub-group, yes.  It'll say "X large ships approaching (N firepower)" or whatever, and each of those will be leading its own group of subordinates.  If you have multiple fronts, you can see them attack from more than one direction and each come in as separate groups, and if you know what you're looking for it's pretty straightforward to pick out both each separate group and the leader within each group.  Even if they're all going to the same place, they still tend to be staggered enough to tell them apart anyway if you watch for them.

Each battlegroup is composed of a single lead ship, a group of escorts, and a bunch of pickets (i.e fleetships).   The points are spread evenly across the three though it almost always has some left over from the pickets because it's restricted to low-cost ships for that part and it can only have a hundred or so of them.  So those extra points get recycled into the escorts.  The escorts can start off being low-mark guardians and whatnot and wind up being high-mark spirecraft and even golems in very serious cases.  But generally if the lead ship is a golem the escorts won't be able to be golems because the escort points are split across a minimum of 6 or so ships.

But multiple battlegroups can start from the same point and some may even have the same objective, and will wind up travelling roughly together, so you can sometimes see what looks like a big group with multiple leads.

So yea, if you're seeing golems in those, kill all the golems and that'll probably be all the lead ships :)

But when it says "X large ships approaching (N firepower)" it doesn't necessarily mean that there are X separate battlegroups.  And it never means that any one of those battlegroups has multiple lead ships.  It just means that there are that many ships with an internal firepower rating over a certain threshold.  Once you start getting spirecraft as escorts, that number can go up a lot.

And yes, a warp jammer command station just removes that specific planet from consideration as a warp target.  If you're playing with Cross-Planet-Waves on (lobby option) the warp jammer doesn't matter at all.  And it certainly doesn't apply to any other sort of attack.

not sure I'm how soon ill have a save to show the tele deal, i wasnt thinking and restarted my game, deleting all the saves from it (i do that quite often :P, have yet to complete one). But should be easy to see it (especially if you guys can force the AI to have a unit). just cover the entrance end of a worm hole with a shield or 6(i hate them getting in ;)), wait for their wave and should happen quickly, they would tele (i ran into this against teleporting battlestations) through the shield (90% sure i was using MarkIII FF's) and use the wormhole about 50% of the time. Its never all of them, but its enough to get annoying :). If i start a game ending up against them, ill up it to my bug report.
