Tanks vs. Electric Shuttles
« on: July 22, 2010, 03:56:14 am »
There's something wrong with the Strong vs. Weak information in the tooltip of the Space Tanks.

It says that against an Electric Shuttle, a Space Tank will win with 82% health left after 189 seconds.  I have no idea how this can be true because Space Tanks are extremely vulnerable to Electric Shuttles of any Tier, and will literally die after only a short exposure to even a small amount of them.

Can anybody explain this phenomena to me?  Is it a bug, or am I reading the Strong vs. Weak info incorrectly?

Thanks,
Wing

Its based on ship-cap vs. ship-cap, which is likely where the misconception is coming from.

I don't have the numbers, but what's the ship cap on both of them?

I have no idea, but I can tell you that if they are both ship capped, the Tanks will die in a matter of seconds.  Like 3 seconds.  There is no way they are lasting 189 seconds, Electric Shuttles just tear them apart.  I almost feel like it's a bug or something.

IIRC, Tanks have longer range than shuttles right? I lobbied a while back that units get placed at max range of the bigger range unit so that range is taken into account in the srong/weak data.

Tanks actually have a very small range, I don't see this as being a significant factor in the Strong vs. Weak equation.

Hmm,

The idea that the aktual bonuses aganst the other shipd whoud be seen instead of the %+time was on the forum at some time i think.

but i too get allways a bit stressed wen i rethink an attack how i recalculate the munbers ind 100 vs 100 battels, and what ship to grind abganst what other ships. Mostly in later games it's more Players experiense what to use aganst the other ships :) and a big clumb of electric Shuttels shoud not be attaked by annything what can't take an electric geating :)

Personally I think the +/- stats need to be based of "100 vs. 100" or at ship cap whichever is lower.

In the case of things that have a cluster penalty, then at the "optimum number" of them (sentinel frigates: 2, electric bombers: 20).

For things that have a cluster bonus, tweak it so that the bonus is large enough to max out at 100 ships: you'll get the same relative falloff in power as they die, but not need 400 of them.

This will give you a baseline for how well the ships do against each other when in evenly matched numbers ("Ok, so 100 fighters pwn 100 bombers and have +90%, so to take out 1000 bombers, I should take 200* fighters").

*I'm not 100% on how to calculate M.A.D. but I think 200 fighters works out to killing about 1100 bombers at the indicated percentages before being all dead.

Since we are on the topic of tool tip statistics, I would love it if you would change things relating to starships to show damage multipliers or something.  It's not very useful that every fleet ship in the game claims to be "bad" at killing starships.  Knowing that some do more damage then others, and that raid starships take less damage still....  Would be handy for people to know.  I spent my first several games using bombers to kill them, because I figured they would be "hardened targets".  I found out here on the forums that fighters do more damage to most starship types, something that I never would have guessed myself, based on ingame data.
